The 1979–80 season was the 34th season in Rijeka’s history and their 18th season in the Yugoslav First League. Their 10th place finish in the 1978–79 season meant it was their sixth successive season playing in the Yugoslav First League. HNK Rijeka
Hrvatski nogometni klub Rijeka (), commonly referred to as HNK Rijeka, is a Croatian professional association football club from the city of Rijeka. HNK Rijeka competes in Croatia's top division, Croatian First Football League, Supersport HNL, of which they have been members since its foundation in 1992 and is the 2024-25 Croatian Football League, current champion. NK Čelik Zenica
Nogometni klub Čelik Zenica () is a professional football club based in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The name ''Čelik'' means ''Steel'' in Bosnian, and it symbolizes the strength and power of the club in an industrial city well known for steel production. Damir Desnica
Damir Desnica (born 20 December 1956) is a Croatian and Yugoslav retired footballer who played as a forward. Born deaf, Desnica spent the majority of his career in the 1970s and 1980s with Rijeka, winning two Yugoslav Cup titles (1978, 1979) and one Balkans Cup (1978). Playing primarily as a left winger for Rijeka, Desnica was known for his pace and dribbling ability. He is remembered as a key figure during the club's successful period in the late 1970s. Desnica earned one senior international cap for Yugoslavia in 1978 and won a bronze medal with the Yugoslav deaf football team at the 1973 International Silent Games in Sweden. Later in his career, he spent five years with Kortrijk in Belgium. Podgorica City Stadium ( cnr-Latn, Stadion pod Goricom, Стадион под Горицом) is an all-seater multi-purpose stadium in Podgorica, Montenegro. Its seating capacity changed over the years due to several renovations, as of 2019 it has 11,080 seats. The stadium is the home ground of the Montenegro national team and Budućnost. History Podgorica City Stadium was built in 1945, following World War II. Before the war, Budućnost and other clubs from Podgorica played their matches in a field near that location. The stadium's original capacity was around 5,000 spectators. The stadium burned down completely in 1952, but was later rebuilt, with a new capacity of about 17,000 seats.
