Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–1983)
The Liga Española de Baloncesto (English language, English: Spanish Basketball League), whose top division was known as Primera División (English language, English: First Division), was the old Spanish basketball league system, 1st Tier level basketball league in Spain, from 1957 to the 1982–83 season. It was organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation, and it was contested by the best clubs of the country. In 1983, the clubs decided to create the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto, Basketball Clubs Association, and transformed the top division into the new Liga ACB, although that league was also named Primera División until 1988. Format The league was played in a double Round-robin tournament, round-robin format without playoffs. Two points were conceded for a winning game, one for a draw, and no points for the loser. Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–1983) Seasons
The Primera FEB, formerly known as LEB or LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the FEB. The FEB leagues are divided into three categories (the other two are the Segunda FEB and the Tercera FEB). The league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the Primera FEB are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the Primera FEB are relegated to Segunda FEB. A total of 81 teams have competed in Primera FEB since its inception in 1996. 19 teams have been crowned champions and 30 teams have gained promotion to Liga ACB, of which only four teams could not play in Liga ACB. Michael Charles Phillips (March 24, 1956 – April 25, 2015) was an American professional basketball player. At a height of , he played at the center position. He played professionally for eleven years in Spain, including six years in Spain's top-tier level league, the Liga ACB. High school Phillips attended and played basketball at Manchester High School, in New Franklin, Ohio, from 1970 to 1974. He helped lead Manchester to the Ohio state AA basketball title in 1974 with a 26–0 record. His 2,573 career points rank 7th most in Ohio high school history. College career Phillips played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats, for coach Joe B. Hall. He helped Kentucky win a national championship in 1978. Wayne Donald Brabender Cole (born October 16, 1945) is an American-born Spanish retired professional basketball player and coach. He acquired Spanish citizenship in 1968, relinquishing his U.S. citizenship to qualify for the Spanish national team. At a height of , he could play at either the shooting guard or small forward positions. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991.
