1979–80 Cypriot Second Division
The 1979–80 Cypriot Second Division was the 25th season of the Cypriot second-level football league. Nea Salamis Famagusta FC won their 2nd title. Format Fourteen teams participated in the 1979–80 Cypriot Second Division. All teams played against each other twice, once at their home and once away. The team with the most points at the end of the season crowned champions. The first team was promoted to 1980–81 Cypriot First Division. The last two teams were relegated to the 1980–81 Cypriot Third Division. Cypriot Second Division
The Cypriot Second Division ( el, Πρωτάθλημα Β΄ Κατηγορίας) is the second highest football division of the Cypriot football league system. Administrated by the Cyprus Football Association, it is contested by 16 teams, with the top two teams being promoted to the Cypriot First Division and the last four teams being relegated to the Cypriot Third Division. History The Cypriot Second Division started unofficially the 1934–35 football season as the second level of the Cypriot football ( Cyprus Football Association founded in 1934). The competition consisted of teams that didn't participate in Cypriot First Division and the reserve teams of the Cypriot First Division clubs. In the reserve teams were allowed to participate only players that had no more than three caps with their team in First Division. 1979–80 Cypriot Cup
The 1979–80 Cypriot Cup was the 38th edition of the Cypriot Cup. A total of 41 clubs entered the competition. It began on 10 November 1979 with the preliminary round and concluded on 29 June 1980 with the replay final which was held at Makario Stadium. Omonia won their 4th Cypriot Cup trophy after beating Alki Larnaca 3–1 in the final. Format In the 1979–80 Cypriot Cup, participated all the teams of the Cypriot First Division, the Cypriot Second Division and the Cypriot Third Division. The competition consisted of six knock-out rounds. In all rounds each tie was played as a single leg and was held at the home ground of the one of the two teams, according to the draw results. Ermis Aradippou () is a Cypriot professional football club based in Aradippou, a settlement on the outskirts of the city of Larnaca. The club was formed in 1958, and currently plays in the Cypriot Second Division. Ermis' greatest success came in 2014, when they won the Super Cup. Othellos Athienou ( el, Οθέλλος Αθηαίνου) is a football club based in Athienou, Larnaca, Cyprus and competes in the Cypriot Second Division.
