The 1978–79 Yugoslav First Basketball League season was the 35th season of the Yugoslav First Basketball League, the highest professional basketball league in SFR Yugoslavia. Yugoslav First Basketball League
The First Federal Basketball League () was the highest tier level men's professional club basketball competition in the former country of Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, SFR Yugoslavia. Founded in 1945, and folded in 1992 (1991–92 YUBA League, 1991–92 Winer Broker YUBA League), it was run by the Basketball Federation of Yugoslavia. With a total of 16 European-wide trophy winners and 11 finalists, the Yugoslav First Basketball League was one of the strongest European national domestic basketball leagues of all time. Although each of the former Yugoslav countries now have their own national domestic leagues, the six nations also now take part in the ABA League (commonly known as the Adriatic League), which was founded in 2001; and which is, the closest basketball league in existence today, that is similar to the former Yugoslav First Federal Basketball League. KK Olimpija
Košarkarski klub Olimpija () was a men's professional basketball club based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Olimpija has won 23 National League championships, including eight consecutive titles between 1992 and 1999. They have played in two different National Leagues since 1946, the Yugoslav Federal League (1946–1991) and the Slovenian League (1991–2019). Goran Knežević
Goran Knežević ( sr-cyr, Горан Кнежевић, ; born 12 May 1957) is a Serbian politician and former professional basketball player. His father is Vuksan Knežević (b. 1931), former Yugoslav political dissident and writer who was sent to prison camp Goli Otok at the age of 17. He served as the Minister of Economy of Serbia from 2016 to 2020. He previously served as Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management from 2012 to 2013. Boris Beravs (Serbian Cyrillic: Борис Беравс; born 12 July 1953) is a retired Yugoslav professional basketball player. Dražen Dalipagić
Dražen "Praja" Dalipagić (; 27 November 1951 – 25 January 2025) was a Serbian professional basketball player and head coach. He was selected the best athlete of Yugoslavia in the year 1978, and is one of the most decorated athletes in Yugoslavian history. He was named one of FIBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1991. Jadranko "Jadran" Vujačić ( sr-Cyrl, Јадранко Вујачић; born 27 December 1959) is a Montenegrin professional basketball coach and former player. Dragan Todorić
Dragan Todorić (; born 27 July 1954) is a Serbian former professional basketball player and current adviser to the President of Partizan Belgrade. He is known for a rare achievement: taking part—either as a player or subsequently as part of the club management—in each one of the 50 trophies KK Partizan won throughout its history. Boban Petrović ( sr-cyr, Бобан Петровић; 19 July 1957 – 27 September 2021), was a Serbian professional basketball player. Playing career A forward, Petrović played 18 seasons in Yugoslavia, France, Spain, and Belgium from 1979 to 1996. He played for Partizan between 1979 and 1985, scoring 3,618 points in 273 games which ranks him the 10th all-time scoring leader in the club's history.
