The League of Ireland is a national association football Sports league, league consisting of professional clubs in the Republic of Ireland and Derry, Derry City in Northern Ireland. It is governed by the Football Association of Ireland. It was the name of the top-level football league in the Republic of Ireland from its foundation in 1921–22 League of Ireland, 1921 until the introduction of a second division in 1985. There are three divisions in the league – the League of Ireland Premier Division, Premier Division, the League of Ireland First Division, First Division and the League of Ireland Women's Premier Division, Women's Premier Division. The league has always worked closely with the FAI, with which it formally merged in 2006. The league is currently sponsored by SSE Airtricity, and as such is known as the SSE Airtricity League for sponsorship reasons. Thurles (; ''Durlas Éile'') is a town in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is located in the civil parish of the same name in the barony of Eliogarty and in the ecclesiastical parish of Thurles. The cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cashel and Emly is located in the town. The birthplace of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), Thurles is the third largest town in the county, with a population of 8,185 at the 2022 census. Location and access Thurles is located in mid-County Tipperary and is surrounded by the Silvermine Mountains (to the northwest) and the Slieveardagh Hills (to the southeast). The town itself is built on a crossing of the River Suir. The M8 motorway connects Thurles to Cork and Dublin via the N75 and N62 roads. Jerome Clarke (born 15 July 1951, in Drogheda) is an Irish former footballer. Career He played for Drogheda United and won his only cap for the Republic of Ireland national football team when he replaced Johnny Giles 12 minutes from time in a 3–0 friendly defeat to Poland national football team on 12 April 1978 in Łódź.
