1978 FIFA World Cup Qualification – UEFA Group 7
Group 7 consisted of three of the 32 teams entered into the European zone:Only 31 of the entered teams actually competed in the qualification tournament: West Germany qualified for the World Cup automatically as defending champions. Czechoslovakia, Scotland, and Wales. These three teams competed on a home-and-away basis for one of the 8.5 spots in the final tournament allocated to the European zone. The spot would be assigned to the group's winner. West Germany National Football Team

Leighton James
Leighton James (born 16 February 1953 in Loughor, Swansea, Wales) is a former Wales international footballer. Playing career James started his career as a left winger with Burnley, making his league debut in November 1970 against Nottingham Forest. In 1971, he won his first international cap against Czechoslovakia. Altogether, he played 54 times for Wales and scored 10 goals. In 1975, he signed for Derby County for a then club record fee of £310,000, and in 1977 joined Queens Park Rangers in exchange for Don Masson. He made his QPR debut against WBA in October 1977 and went on to play 28 league games, scoring 4 goals. In 1978, he returned to play with Burnley but left when they were relegated to the third division and signed for Swansea City, helping them from the third division to the first. Don Masson
Donald Sandison Masson (born 26 August 1946) is a Scottish former footballer. Club career Masson began his career with Middlesbrough in 1964. He was signed by Notts County manager Billy Gray in 1968 in a joint deal for £7000 along with Bob Worthington. He stayed there for six years before moving to Queens Park Rangers in December 1974 for £100,000. Masson made his debut in the 1-0 home win versus Sheffield United on 14 December 1974. Although approaching 29 years of age before he played top-level football, his was a signing that underlined the quality of then manager Dave Sexton's judgement. Sir Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish (born 4 March 1951) is a Scottish former football player and manager. Richard Asa Hartford (born 24 October 1950) is a Scottish former association football, football player and coach. He started his professional career with West Bromwich Albion F.C., West Bromwich Albion. Joseph Jordan (born 15 December 1951) is a Scottish football player, coach and manager. He is currently a first-team coach at AFC Bournemouth. A former striker, he played for Leeds United, Manchester United, and Milan, among others at club level, as well making 52 appearances and scoring 11 goals for Scotland. As a player, he gained a fearsome 'Jaws' persona due to having lost two front teeth early in his career. António Garrido (referee)
António José da Silva Garrido OIH (3 December 1932 – 10 September 2014) was a Portuguese football referee. Career Born in Vieira de Leiria, Marinha Grande, Garrido was the first Portuguese referee to officiate a European Cup final in 1980. He refereed three matches in the FIFA World Cup, two in the 1978 and one in the 1982 – the 3rd place play-off match. He also refereed one match in the UEFA Euro 1980 and the first leg of 1977 European Super Cup. On 3 August 1983, Garrido received the title of Officer of the Order of Prince Henry. Although he was an accountant by profession, he continued involved in football after his forced retirement as a referee in 1982 due to age limit.
