1976–77 Swiss Cup
The 1976–77 Swiss Cup was the 52nd season of Switzerland's annual football cup competition. Overview The cup competition began on 6 June 1976, with the first games of the first round, but this round was not completed until 8 August. The entire competition was to be completed on Easter Monday 11 April 1978 with the final, which was held at the former Wankdorf Stadium in Bern. The clubs from this season's Nationalliga B (NLB) were granted byes for the first round. These entered the competition for the second round, played on the weekend of 14 and 15 of August. The clubs from this season's Nationalliga A (NLA) were granted byes for the first three rounds. These teams joined the competition in the fourth round on 25 and 26 September. The matches were played in a knockout format. Up until the fifth-round, in the event of a draw at the end of extra time, the match was decided with a penalty shoot-out. Urania Genève Sport is a Swiss omnisport club based in Geneva. Its football section was founded in 1896. The current club was born in 1922 through a merger between FC Urania and FC Genève. SC Buochs is a Swiss football club, founded in 1934 (officially). The club colours are blue and white derived from the town Buochs's coat of arms. FC Emmenbrücke are a Swiss football team with its home in the city of Emmen, currently playing in the Swiss 2. Liga Interregional, the fifth tier in the Swiss football pyramid. The club was formed in 1921. Their best result in the younger history was the 4th position in the Swiss 1. Liga at the end of 2008–09 season. History FC Emmenbrücke was founded in 1921 in the area of Littau with the idea of separating from an already existing football club in Emmen. Yellow and black were chosen as the club colours in reference to BSC Young Boys. The main problem was finding a suitable playing field. The games were first played in Reussbühl, then from 1923 on a plot of scattered land in the Mooshüsli area in Emmen, and then again in exile until 1947, this time in Littau.
