Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–1983)
The Liga Española de Baloncesto (English language, English: Spanish Basketball League), whose top division was known as Primera División (English language, English: First Division), was the old Spanish basketball league system, 1st Tier level basketball league in Spain, from 1957 to the 1982–83 season. It was organized by the Spanish Basketball Federation, and it was contested by the best clubs of the country. In 1983, the clubs decided to create the Asociación de Clubs de Baloncesto, Basketball Clubs Association, and transformed the top division into the new Liga ACB, although that league was also named Primera División until 1988. Format The league was played in a double Round-robin tournament, round-robin format without playoffs. Two points were conceded for a winning game, one for a draw, and no points for the loser. Liga Española De Baloncesto (1957–1983) Seasons
The Primera FEB, formerly known as LEB or LEB Oro, is the second basketball division of the Spanish basketball league system after the Liga ACB. It is run by the FEB. The FEB leagues are divided into three categories (the other two are the Segunda FEB and the Tercera FEB). The league was founded in 1996 and is played under FIBA rules. The league is contested by 18 clubs. Each season, the top-finishing team in the Primera FEB are automatically promoted to the Liga ACB. The teams that finish the season in 2nd to 9th place enter a playoff tournament, with the winner also gaining promotion to the Liga ACB. The three lowest-finishing teams in the Primera FEB are relegated to Segunda FEB. A total of 81 teams have competed in Primera FEB since its inception in 1996. 19 teams have been crowned champions and 30 teams have gained promotion to Liga ACB, of which only four teams could not play in Liga ACB. Walter Szczerbiak Sr. (born Wolodymir Szczerbiak, August 21, 1949) is an American former professional basketball player. At , Szczerbiak played at the small forward position. On February 3, 2008, Szczerbiak was chosen as one of the 50 most influential personalities to European club basketball, over the previous half-century, by the EuroLeague Basketball Experts Committee. Early life and education Born Wolodymir Szczerbiak in a Ukrainian refugee camp in Hamburg, West Germany, he received a sponsorship from a Ukrainian Catholic Church to immigrate to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in December 1951. He later attended St. Basil College, a Ukrainian Catholic minor seminary in Stamford, Connecticut, where he first learned to play basketball. Robert "Bob" Guyette (born August 29, 1953, in Ottawa, Illinois) is an American former professional basketball player, who played five seasons in the Spanish League. At a height of 6' 9", he played at the power forward position. After his playing days, he became an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. College career Guyette played for three varsity seasons with the Kentucky Wildcats, where he averaged 9.0 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. He also played on the junior varsity team as a freshman, since at the time, freshmen weren't eligible to play on the varsity squad. In 1975, he played in the NCAA Final against the UCLA Bruins, in which they lost 92–85. Guyette had 16 points and 7 rebounds in that game.
