Competition format The participating teams first played a conventional round-robin schedule with every team playing each opponent twice "home" and twice "away" for a total of 14 games. The top team won the national championship whilst the bottom team was relegated to Division I. KR Men's Basketball
The KR men's basketball team, commonly known as KR or KR Basket, is a professional basketball club based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is the men's basketball department of Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur (English: Reykjavík Football Club) multi-sport club. Fram Reykjavík Basketball
(English: Fram's basketball department) was the basketball department of Knattspyrnufélagið Fram, located in Reykjavík, Iceland. Men's basketball History In 1973 Fram participated in the first edition of the Icelandic 2. deild karla (basketball), Second Division and became its first winner. From the following season, the 1974–75 season, Fram Reykjavík began their leadership in the 1. deild karla (basketball), First Division and their series of wins which ended in the 1985–86 season when they won their fourth title. Fram's best season came in 1981–1982 when the team won the Icelandic cup and finished second in the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Úrvalsdeild. The basketball department disbanded after the 1986–87 season but had a brief revitalization in the 2010s, playing three seasons in the Second Division from 2010 to 2013 and making it to the playoffs in 2012 and 2013. The Valur men's basketball team, commonly known as Valur, is a basketball team based in Reykjavík, Iceland. It is part of the Valur (club), Valur multi-sport club. History The club was founded as ''Gosi'' on 25 December 1951 and was one of the founding members of the Úrvalsdeild karla (basketball), Icelandic men's top division. On 22 December 1957 the club changed its name to ''Körfuknattleiksfélag Reykjavíkur'' (English: Reykjavík Basketball Club) and played under that name until 1970. On 3 October 1970 the club merged into Valur (club), Valur sports club and became its basketball department. Under the new name, Valur had considerable success in the 1980s, winning the Icelandic championship two times, in 1980 and 1983, and the Icelandic cup three times, 1980, 1981 and 1983. Njarðvík () is a town in southwestern Iceland, on the peninsula of Reykjanes. As of 2009, its population was 4,400.
