The following is the summary of the Swiss National League in the 1973–74 football season, both Nationalliga A and Nationalliga B. This was the 77th season of top-tier and the 76th season of second-tier football in Switzerland. Overview The Swiss Football Association (ASF/SFV) had 28 member clubs at this time which were divided into two divisions of 14 teams each. The teams played a double round-robin to decide their table positions. Two points were awarded for a win, and one point was awarded for a draw. The top tier (NLA) was contested by the top 12 teams from the previous 1972–73 season and the two newly promoted teams Xamax and Chênois. The champions would qualify for the 1974–75 European Cup. The second and third placed teams were qualified for the 1974–75 UEFA Cup. The last two placed teams were relegated. BSC Young Boys
Berner Sport Club Young Boys (YB by short abbreviation, ) is a Swiss professional sports club based in Bern, Switzerland. Its first team has won 17 Swiss league championships and eight Swiss Cups. YB is one of the most successful Swiss football clubs internationally, reaching the semi-finals of the European Cup in the 1958–59 season. The club's colours are yellow of a golden shade and black. Vevey-Sports, formerly FC Vevey United is a Swiss football club based in Vevey, Vaud canton. The club currently play in Promotion League, the third tier of Swiss football. 1974–75 UEFA Cup
The 1974–75 UEFA Cup was the fourth season of the UEFA Cup, the third-tier club football competition organised by UEFA. The final was played over two legs at the Rheinstadion, Düsseldorf, West Germany, and at the Diekman Stadion, Enschede, the Netherlands. It was won by Borussia Mönchengladbach of West Germany, who defeated FC Twente of the Netherlands by an aggregate result of 5–1 to claim their first UEFA Cup title. No team from West Germany had ever won the UEFA Cup, or its unofficial predecessor Inter-Cities Fairs Cup before Borussia's first conquest, which came two years after reaching the final in 1973. In that edition, both teams had already faced in the semi-finals, which ended with the same aggregate score. The 1974–75 season was the 20th season of the European Cup, an annual football tournament for the champion clubs of the member nations of UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations). It was won for the second consecutive time by Bayern Munich in the final against Leeds United, the first English side to reach the final since Manchester United won it seven years earlier and only the second in the history of the competition. FC Chiasso
FC Chiasso is a Swiss football club based in Chiasso. It was founded in 1905. Chiasso also played in the Italian first league between 1914 and 1923. The team currently play in 3. Liga, the seventh tier of Swiss football. History Between 1927 and 1993, the club played a total of 28 seasons in the Swiss top flight.
