The 1973–74 Australian region cyclone season was the third most active tropical cyclone season in the Australian Region. Season summary Systems Severe Tropical Cyclone Ines On November 17, Ines formed offshore the Top End. Moving westward, the cyclone passed north of Bathurst and Melville islands. Thereafter, Ines curved southwestward and intensified into a cyclone while nearing Troughton Island. The storm made landfall in Kimberley, Western Australia on November 19. Ines slowly weakened after moving inland and dissipated on November 24. Tropical Cyclone Annie Cyclone Annie developed northwest of Western Australia on November 21. By December 8, it dissipated. The 1971–72 Australian region cyclone season was a very active tropical cyclone season. Season summary Systems Tropical Cyclone Rhoda Tropical Cyclone Rhoda existed from October 20 to October 26. Tropical Low Kitty Kitty existed from 2 to 5 December 1971 in the Arafura Sea Severe Tropical Cyclone Sally Sally, 3 to 13 December 1971 crossed coast near Broome, Western Australia. Severe Tropical Cyclone Althea Tropical Cyclone Althea was a Category 4 cyclone when it hit the coast some 50 km north of Magnetic Island and Townsville in North Queensland on 24 December. Althea produced peak gust wind speeds between 123 and 145 miles per hour (197 and 233 km/h). Three people died and property damage was estimated at A$115 million loss (1990 value). 1973 Pacific Hurricane Season
The 1973 Pacific hurricane season was an above average season, with twelve named tropical cyclones in total. Seven storms became hurricanes, of which three were major (Category 3 or higher on the Saffir-Simpson scale). The season officially started May 15, 1973, in the eastern Pacific, and June 1, 1973, in the central Pacific, and lasted until November 30, 1973. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the northeastern Pacific Ocean. All tropical cyclones this season formed in the eastern north Pacific Ocean, often off the coast of Mexico. Most systems traveled generally westward or northwestward, and two reached as far as the waters south of the Hawaiian Islands. 1974 Atlantic Hurricane Season
The 1974 Atlantic hurricane season was a destructive and deadly Atlantic hurricane season, hurricane season. In terms of overall activity, it was near average, with eleven tropical cyclone naming, named storms forming, of which four became hurricanes. Two of those four became major hurricanes, which are Category 3 ( sustained winds) or higher systems on the Saffir–Simpson scale. The season officially began on June 1 and lasted until November 30. These dates conventionally delimit the period of each year when most tropical cyclones form in the Atlantic Ocean. The first system, a tropical depression, developed over the Bay of Campeche on June 22 and dissipated by June 26. Of the 24 tropical or subtropical cyclones which developed, only 8 became named storms, and of those, only 4 became hurricanes, with 1 reaching major hurricane status (Category 3 or higher) on the newly implemented Saffir–Simpson hurricane wind scale. The season officially began on June 1 and ended on November 30. These dates, adopted by convention, historically describe the period in each year when most tropical cyclones form in the North Atlantic. Brisbane River
