1972 Peruvian Segunda División
The 1972 Peruvian Segunda División, the second division of Peruvian football (soccer), was played by 11 teams. The tournament winner, Atlético Chalaco was promoted to the 1973 Torneo Descentralizado. In April 1973, the Peruvian Football Federation ordered the elimination of the Second Division, so all the teams that maintained the category, in addition to Defensor Arica, which was relegated from 1972 Torneo Descentralizado, began to play in their respective league of origin. The Peruvian Second Division (; known simply as ''Second Division'', and Liga 2 Caja Cusco for sponsorship reasons), officially known as Liga 2, is the second-highest division in the Peruvian football league system. Founded in 1943, it is a professional and promotional division organized by the Peruvian Football Federation. Since 2025, it has been contested by 15 teams, with promotion to the Peruvian Primera División, Liga 1, and relegation to the Peruvian Tercera División, Liga 3. Estadio Alberto Gallardo is a association football, football stadium in the Rimac District of Lima, Peru, named after Alberto Gallardo, a former Peruvian football player and manager who played for several years for Sporting Cristal.
