1972 African Cup Of Nations
The 1972 African Cup of Nations was the eighth edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the association football championship of Africa ( CAF). It was hosted by Cameroon, in the cities of Yaoundé and Douala. Just like in 1970, the field of eight teams was split into two groups of four. The People's Republic of the Congo won its first championship, beating Mali in the final 3−2. Qualified teams For the first time, Ethiopia did not compete. Fantamady Keita
Fantamady Keita (born 25 September 1949) is a Malian former professional Association football, footballer who played as a Striker (association football), striker. A Mali national football team, Malian international, he was the leading scorer in the 1972 African Cup of Nations, scoring five goals as Mali reached the final. Career Keita began his playing career with AS Real Bamako, before he went on to spend three years (1972–1975) in France with Stade Rennais F.C., Stade Rennais. He also had a spells with AS Angoulême and ECAC Chaumont. In 2006, he was selected by Confederation of African Football, CAF as one of the best 200 African football players of the last 50 years. Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo
Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Yaoundé, Cameroon. It is used mostly for association football, football matches and it also has athletics facilities. It was built in 1972. The stadium has been renovated in 2016 ahead of the Africa Women Cup of Nations, African Women Cup of Nations tournament. It has a capacity of 42,500 seats. It is the home stadium of Canon Yaoundé, Tonnerre Yaoundé and the women's club Louves Minproff. The stadium is also known as the home venue of the Cameroonian national football team, who drew the stadium's record attendance of 120,000 in a football match in the 1980s.
