1971–72 Ekstraklasa
The 1971–72 I liga was the 46th season of the List of Polish football champions, Polish Football Championship and the 38th season of the Ekstraklasa, I liga, Polish football league system, the top Polish professional league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 1927 Ekstraklasa, 1927. The league was operated by the Polish Football Association (PZPN). The defending champions were Górnik Zabrze, who won their 10th Polish title. Competition modus The season started on 7 August 1971 and concluded on 28 June 1972 (autumn-spring league). The season was played as a round-robin tournament. The team at the top of the standings won the league title. A total of 14 teams participated, 12 of which competed in the league during the 1970–71 Ekstraklasa, 1970–71 season, while the remaining two were promoted from the 1970–71 II liga. Ekstraklasa
(; meaning "Extra Class" in Polish), officially known as PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa due to its Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is a professional association football league in Poland and the highest level of the Polish football league system. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the qualifies for the Polish Super Cup. Since 2005, the league is operated by the S.A. (corporation), Spółka Akcyjna. The Polish football champions are the annual winners of Poland's premier annual Association football, football competition. The title has been contested since 1920 in varying forms of competition. From 1921 to 1926 the championship was decided in a series of tournaments until the Ekstraklasa, league was formed in 1927. Joachim Marx
Joachim Jerzy Marx (born 31 August 1944) is a Polish former professional footballer who played as a striker. Besides Poland, he has played in France. At international level, he played for Poland national team, scoring 10 goals in 23 appearances, and was a participant at the 1972 Summer Olympics, where his team won the gold medal. With Ruch Chorzów, he played 162 matches in the Ekstraklasa scoring 66 goals. With Marx, Ruch won the national championship (1974 and 1975), and the Polish Cup (1974). Later in his career, Marx went to France, where he played most notably for RC Lens (second place in Ligue 1 in 1977). Since ending his professional career in 1982, Marx worked as a coach in France. I liga (, ), currently named Betclic I liga due to its sponsorship by Betclic, is the men's second professional association football division of the Polish football league system, below the Ekstraklasa and above the II liga via promotion/relegation systems. It is run by the Polish Football Association (PZPN) since its inception on 30 May 1948. The league was renamed from Second League (II liga) to First League (I liga) in 2008. ŁKS Łódź (''Łódzki Klub Sportowy Łódź''; ) is a Polish sports club based in Łódź. Zagłębie Wałbrzych is a Polish multi-sports club in the south-western city of Wałbrzych. The club, based in the Biały Kamień neighbourhood, is the most famous for its football team, which competed in the Polish top division in the past. History The club was founded in 1945 as ''KS Julia Biały Kamień'', near the ''Julia'' coal mine. Later, immigrant workers from France and Belgium renamed the club to ''Thorez'', after Maurice Thorez, a French communist leader. The name was disliked by most fans and was changed in 1968 into Zagłębie, which means ''coal basin'' in Polish, as Wałbrzych was an important center of mining. WKS Gwardia Warszawa () was a Polish sports club based in Warsaw. The club was founded in 1948. The club was dissolved in 2018. FKS Stal Mielec, commonly known as Stal Mielec (), is a Polish professional football club based in Mielec. The team competes in the I liga, the second level of the Polish football league system. The club was established on 10 April 1939. Polish Football Association
The Polish Football Association ( PZPN) is the governing body of association football in Poland. It organizes the Polish football leagues (without the ), the national cups, and manages the men's and women's national teams. It also runs the national futsal and beach soccer competitions. It is based in the Polish capital of Warsaw.
