The 10th (X) European Athletics Championships were held from 10 August to 15 August 1971 in the Olympic Stadium of Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Györgyi Balogh
Györgyi Balogh (born 1 May 1948) is a Hungarian former sprinter. She placed second in women's 200 metres at the 1971 European Championships in Helsinki and competed in the Summer Olympic Games in 1968 and 1972. Career At the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City Balogh competed in the 100 metres, 200 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay, only qualifying from the first round in the 100 metres, in which she was eliminated in the second round. Balogh also competed in the 1969 European Championships in Athens without much more success, but two years later in Helsinki she won the silver at 200 metres, running 23.26 and losing only to East Germany's Renate Stecher. In addition, she placed fifth in both the 100 metres and the 4 × 100 metres relay. She returned to the Olympics in 1972 Summer Olympics, this time running the 400 metres. Sylviane Telliez (née Marotel; born 30 October 1942) is a former French track and field who competed in short sprints. She dominated French sprinting in the first half of the 1970s. She was a four-time medallist in the 60 metres at the European Athletics Indoor Championships from 1970 to 1974. She was also a 100 m finalist at the 1969 European Athletics Championships. Ingeborg "Inge" Helten (born 31 December 1950) is a former athlete from West Germany, who competed mainly in the 100 metres. She was born in Westum, Sinzig, Rhineland-Palatinate. Biography She won her first international Gold medal at the 1971 European Athletics Championships as a member of the 4 × 100 m relay team, where she placed 4th in the 100 metre final. She took a silver as the anchor of the 4 × 100 m relay squad in the 1974 European Championships in Rome. Elizabeth Frances Shippen, previously Lt Colonel Elizabeth Frances Johns RRC (24 November 1894 – 3 June 1982) was an Australia matron and army nurse. She rose to the temporary rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was awarded a Royal Red Cross medal for gallantry. In peace time she was matron at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne.
