1970–71 Bundesliga
The 1970–71 Bundesliga was the eighth season of the Bundesliga, West Germany's premier football league. It began on 15 August 1970 and ended on 5 June 1971. Borussia Mönchengladbach were the defending champions. Competition modus Every team played two games against each other team, one at home and one away. Teams received two points for a win and one point for a draw. If two or more teams were tied on points, places were determined by goal difference and, if still tied, by goals scored. The team with the most points were crowned champions while the two teams with the fewest points were relegated to their respective Regionalliga#1963–1974, Regionalliga divisions. Team changes to 1969–70 TSV 1860 Munich and Alemannia Aachen were relegated to the Regionalliga#1963–1974, Regionalliga after finishing in the last two places. Bundesliga
The Bundesliga (; ), sometimes referred to as the Fußball-Bundesliga () or 1. Bundesliga (), is a professional association football league in Germany and the highest level of the German football league system. The Bundesliga comprises 18 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the 2. Bundesliga. Seasons run from August to May. Sportverein Werder Bremen von 1899 e. V. (), commonly known as Werder Bremen, Werder or simply Bremen, is a German professional sports club based in Bremen. The Deutsche Mark (; "German mark (currency), mark"), abbreviated "DM" or "D-Mark" (), was the official currency of West Germany from 1948 until 1990 and later of unified Germany from 1990 until the adoption of the euro in 2002. Helmut Schön
Helmut Schön (15 September 1915 – 23 February 1996) was a German football player and manager. He is best remembered for his exceptional career as manager of the West Germany national team in four consecutive World Cup tournaments, including winning the title in 1974, losing in the final in 1966, and coming in third in 1970. In addition, his teams won the European Championship in 1972 and lost in the final in 1976. Biography Schön played as a striker for Dresdner SC, winning the German football championship in 1943 and 1944 as well as the cup in 1941 and 1942. He appeared 16 times for his country between 1937 and 1941, scoring 17 goals. After World War II he began his career in football management in his native state of Saxony, then part of Soviet-occupied East Germany. Horst-Gregorio Canellas
Horst-Gregorio Canellas (6 June 1921 – 23 July 1999) was a Spanish-German entrepreneur and association football, football official. Canellas is best known for his role in breaking the Bundesliga scandal (1971), 1971 Bundesliga scandal. He was also a hostage on the hijacked German Lufthansa Flight 181 in 1977. Biography Canellas, son of a Spanish father and a German mother, was born in Plauen, Saxony, in 1921. After the end of World War II he spent some time in Spain and then moved to Hesse and adopted German citizenship. He became the managing director of a fruit importer in Frankfurt. In 1964 Canellas became chairman of Kickers Offenbach, a club then playing in the second division Regionalliga Süd (1963–74), Regionalliga Süd. 1971–72 DFB-Pokal
The 1971–72 DFB-Pokal was the 29th season of the annual German football cup competition. It began on 4 December 1971 and ended on 1 July 1972. 32 teams competed in the tournament of five rounds. In the final Schalke 04 defeated 1. FC Kaiserslautern 5–0, the largest margin by which a DFB-Pokal final was ever decided. Mode The tournament consisted of five rounds. In each round other than the final the games were held over two legs, with the team winning on aggregate advancing to the next round. In case the score was level after two legs, the second game was extended by 30 minutes of extra time. Aachener Turn- und Sportverein Alemannia 1900 e. V., short Alemannia Aachen (), is a German football club from the western city of Aachen, North Rhine-Westphalia.
