(; meaning "Extra Class" in Polish), officially known as PKO Bank Polski Ekstraklasa due to its Sponsor (commercial), sponsorship by PKO Bank Polski, is a professional association football league in Poland and the highest level of the Polish football league system. Contested by 18 clubs, operating a system of promotion and relegation with the I liga, seasons start in July, and end in May or June the following year. Teams play a total of 34 games each. Games are played on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. The winner of the qualifies for the Polish Super Cup. Since 2005, the league is operated by the S.A. (corporation), Spółka Akcyjna. Towarzystwo Sportowe Wisła Kraków Spółka Akcyjna, commonly referred to as Wisła Kraków (), is a Polish professional football club based in Kraków. Robert Gadocha (born 10 January 1946) is a Polish former professional footballer who played as a left winger. Gadocha, who started his career in Garbarnia Kraków. later also played for FC Nantes, and briefly in the United States for Chicago Sting, his last professional team. His departure to France happened when he was 29. In Poland it was forbidden for a long time to departure abroad to play football. He was the first Polish player to get a legal permission to move abroad to play football. He was a member of the Poland national team that won the gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, as well as a member of the team that finished third in the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany. Lucjan Antoni Brychczy (nicknamed Kici; 13 June 1934 – 2 December 2024) was a Polish footballer who played as a striker. Born in New Bytom, Upper Silesia, where after starting at local lower league clubs, he played for nearby the then third division Piast Gliwice. He then transferred to Legia Warsaw, where the rest of career was linked with and one that earned him notoriety. He won four national titles with them, in 1955, 1956, 1969 and 1970 as well as four domestic cups, in 1955, 1956, 1964 and 1966. He scored 182 goals during his stint which lasted 19 seasons, both of which remain club records to this day. His Legia career also included a foray into the semi-finals of the European Cup. Jan Andrzej Domarski (born 28 October 1946) is a Polish former footballer and bronze-medal winner in the 1974 World Cup tournament in Germany. A midfielder, he played in seventeen matches for the Poland national team and was a double-champion with Stal Mielec. He is often noted for scoring a historic goal for the Poland national team on 17 October 1973 against England at Wembley Stadium in 57th minute during the final group qualifying match for the 1974 World Cup. The match ended in a 1–1, which allowed the Polish team to win the group and qualify for the 1974 World Cup. The team ultimately secured third place in the tournament. Andrzej Władysław Jarosik (26 November 1944 – 23 April 2024) was a Polish footballer who played as a forward. Club career Born in Sosnowiec, Jarosik started his career in Zagłębie Sosnowiec (1958–1974) and then played for in France with Racing Strasbourg (1974–1976) and SC Toulon (1976–1977). He was a two time scoring champion in the Polish first league, in 1970 with 18 goals and in 1971 with 13 goals. International career Jarosik earned 25 caps scoring 11 goals for the Poland national team, having made his debut in 1965 against Bulgaria national football team. His last appearance for the national team was in 1972 also against Bulgaria. He qualified for the Olympic squad in Munich (1972) and won the gold medal.
