1961–62 Nationalliga A
The following is the summary of the Swiss National League in the 1961–62 football season, both Nationalliga A and Nationalliga B. This was the 65th season of top-tier and the 64th season of second-tier football in Switzerland. Overview The Swiss Football Association (ASF/SFV) had 28 member clubs at this time which were divided into two divisions of 14 teams each. The teams played a double round-robin to decide their table positions. Two points were awarded for a win and one point was awarded for a draw. The top tier (NLA) was contested by the top 12 teams from the previous 1960–61 season and the two newly promoted teams FC Lugano and FC Schaffhausen. The champions would qualify for the 1962–63 European Cup and the last two teams in the league table at the end of the season were to be relegated. The Super League (also known as the Credit Suisse Super League for sponsorship reasons) is a professional association football league in Switzerland and the highest level of the Swiss football league system. It has been played in its current format since the 2003–04 season. FC Winterthur
FC Winterthur is a Swiss football club based in Winterthur, Canton of Zürich. They play in the Swiss Super League, the first tier of Swiss football, and appeared regularly in the Nationalliga A during the 20th century. Their home is the Stadion Schützenwiese. Stadion Gurzelen
Gurzelen Stadion was a multi-purpose stadium in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. It has mostly been used for football matches and was the home ground of FC Biel-Bienne. The capacity of the stadium was 5,500. Gurzelen Stadion was set to be demolished in mid 2016. Gurzelen Stadion is temporarily used for the project "Terrain Gurzelen" since January 2017 until it will be demolished the earliest in 2020. The Landhof was a sports stadium in the district Basel-Wettstein in Kleinbasel, Basel. It was the former and first home stadium of FC Basel. It is mentioned for the first time in a chronicle in the second half of the 18th century as a ''nice summer house with beautiful property''. The best known owner of the manor was , a member of the Merian family. He was Mayor of Basel and Landammann of Switzerland (highest office at the time).
