The 1961–62 Irish League was the 61st edition of the Irish League, the highest level of league competition in Northern Irish football. Hubert Henry Barr (born 17 May 1935), known as Hugh Barr, is a Northern Irish former footballer who played as a forward at both professional and international levels. Early and personal life Born in Ballymena, Barr studied at Queen's University Belfast. Career Club career Barr played for Wellington Street Boys' Brigade, Harryville Amateurs, Ballyclare Comrades, Cliftonville, Loughborough College, Everton, Coleraine, Ballymena United, Linfield, Coventry City and Cambridge United, before becoming player-manager at Ely City. Jimmy Jones (Northern Ireland Footballer)
James Jones (25 July 1928 – 13 February 2014) was a Northern Irish footballer who played as a forward. He is the leading goalscorer in the history of Irish League football with a total of 647 goals. According to RSSSF, he scored more than 809 goals in official matches, which makes him one of the most prolific goal scorers of all time. In a career spanning almost 20 years, Jones started his career with Belfast Celtic. After having his leg broken by rival supporters, he spent over a year out of the game, before returning at intermediate level with Larne. After a short spell there and a season in English football with Fulham, he joined Glenavon where he helped to propel the club to the most successful period in their history. Tommy Dickson
Thomas Arneill Dickson (16 July 1929 – 31 December 2007) was a Northern Irish international footballer who most notably played with Linfield from 1948 to 1965. He played 660 times for Linfield, scoring 454 goals. He has been cited as one of the greatest Irish League players of all time. His popularity among Linfield fans led to him being nicknamed '' The Duke of Windsor''. Club career Dickson began his youth career with Roosevelt Street Boys Club, before moving to the Irish Intermediate League in 1947 to join Brantwood as an amateur. Trevor Thompson (footballer Born 1936)
Trevor Thompson was a Northern Irish footballer who played in the Irish League as a centre forward, most famously with Glentoran in the 1960s. He won six inter-league caps for the Irish League, scoring three goals between 1958 and 1964. He attended Raymond S. Kellis High School. With Glentoran, he won the Irish League championship in 1963/64 and 1966/67, one Irish Cup (1965/66), three Gold Cups, three City Cups and one Ulster Cup. Billy Johnston (Irish Footballer)
William Cecil Johnston (born 21 May 1942 in Coalisland) is a retired footballer and manager, who was most notable as the first ever Crusaders manager to win the league with the club, on two occasions (1973 and 1976). Billy was a keen participant of sport at school, representing Ulster Schools at rugby, and was selected for the Northern Ireland Youth international football team against all three of the other home countries in 1959. As a 16-year-old, he joined Glenavon and soon forced his way into the first team. A prolific goalscorer with a touch of class, Billy soon emphasised his impact with the Lurgan Blues by scoring a hat-trick in a league match against Bangor that clinched the 1959–60 Irish League title.
