Czechoslovak First League
The Czechoslovak First League (, ) was the premier football (soccer), football league in the Czechoslovakia from 1925 to 1993, with the exception of World War II. Czechoslovakia was occupied by German forces who formed Gauliga Sudetenland and Gauliga Böhmen und Mähren leagues on occupied territories. Until the 1934-35 season, no teams from Slovakia participated in the league. Czechs were allowed to run their own league in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, while Slovaks were granted their own independent Slovak State and created their own league. After the World War II the league was recreated. Description The league was dominated by clubs from Prague with Sparta Prague winning 19 titles, Dukla Prague 11 and Slavia Prague 9. The attendance record for the league was set on 4 September 1965, when 50,105 spectators attended a match between rivals Sparta and Slavia in Prague. FC Hradec Králové
FC Hradec Králové is a Czech professional football club based in the city of Hradec Králové. The club, which was founded in 1905, won the Czechoslovak First League in the 1959–60 season. Since 2021, the club has played in the Czech First League. Following their domestic success, Hradec played in the 1960–61 European Cup and was eliminated by Barcelona in the quarter-finals, Barcelona eventually becoming runners-up. In 1995 Hradec won the Czech Cup and subsequently played in the Cup Winners' Cup, where it was eliminated in the round of 16 by Dynamo Moscow. In the 2002–03 season they were relegated to the Second Division. They returned to the top flight in 2009–10 only to be relegated once more in 2012–13; however they would place second in the 2. Zdeněk Zikán
Zdeněk Zikán (10 November 1937 – 14 February 2013) was a Czech footballer who played as a forward. During his club career he played for several clubs, including Dukla Pardubice and Dukla Prague. During his time with Spartak Hradec Králové, he played in the 1960–61 European Cup, scoring against eventual finalists FC Barcelona in the quarter finals. Zikán earned four caps and scored five goals for the Czechoslovakia national football team, including four goals in three games in the 1958 FIFA World Cup. He finished his international career with the distinction of having scored in every game in which he had played. Václav Mašek (born 21 March 1941) is a Czech football player who played as a striker. He was a member of the Czechoslovakia national football team, for which he played 16 matches and scored 5 goals. In Czechoslovakia, he played 313 league matches and scored 127 goals for Sparta Prague. He was a participant in the 1962 FIFA World Cup, where his country was runners up, losing to Brazil in the final. Rudolf Kučera
Rudolf Kučera (3 January 1940 – 11 May 2024) was a Czech footballer who played as a forward. He played his club football in Czechoslovakia, mainly for Dukla Prague, with whom he became joint top scorer of the 1960–61 Czechoslovak First League with 17 goals. He won three league titles with the club, as well as the Czechoslovak Cup in 1961. Club career Kučera played for TJ Gottwaldov before moving to Dukla Prague in 1959. Kučera scored the first competitive goal at Stadion Juliska, opening the scoring in a 2–1 win against Wiener SK in the 1960 Mitropa Cup. In the 1960–61 Czechoslovak First League, Dukla won the league, with Kučera's 17 goals tying Ladislav Pavlovič as joint top scorer. The club also won the Czechoslovak Cup the same season, earning " the double" in the process. Further league titles followed in 1961–62 and 1962–63. In 1985, he also took charge of the Czechoslovakia national under-21 football team, Czechoslovakia under-21 side. Lopata died in 2021 after a long illness. Miroslav Wiecek (4 November 1931 in Ostrava – 12 July 1997) was a Czech football player. Wiecek played most of his career for Baník Ostrava.
