1961 Milan–San Remo
The 1961 Milan–San Remo was the 52nd edition of the Milan–San Remo cycle race and was held on 18 March 1961. The race started in Milan and finished in San Remo. It was won by Raymond Poulidor, who earlier had to be encouraged by his director Antonin Magne not to give up after suffering a puncture. The peloton arrived 3 seconds later, with Rik Van Looy winning the sprint. Raymond Poulidor
Raymond Poulidor (; 15 April 1936 – 13 November 2019), nicknamed "Pou-Pou" (), was a French professional road bicycle racing, racing cyclist, who rode for his entire career. His distinguished career coincided with two other outstanding riders – Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx. This underdog position may have been the reason Poulidor was a favourite of the public. He was known as "The Eternal Second", because he never won the Tour de France despite finishing in second place three times, and in third place five times (including his final Tour at the age of 40). Despite his consistency, he never wore the yellow jersey as leader of the General classification in the Tour de France, general classification in 14 Tours (of which he completed 12). Dino Bruni
Dino Bruni (born 13 April 1932) is an Italian road racing cyclist who won the silver medal in the men's team road race at the 1952 Summer Olympics, alongside Vincenzo Zucconelli and Gianni Ghidini. Italy's fourth rider Bruno Monti also crossed the line, but did not receive a medal because just the first three counted for the final classification. Bruni also represented his native country at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. After his amateur career, he was a professional rider from 1956 to 1965. He won three stages in the Tour de France, and two stages in the Giro d'Italia. Jo De Haan
Jo de Haan (25 December 1936 – 19 April 2006) was a Dutch cyclist who was active between 1956 and 1966. After winning four local road races as amateur in 1956 and 1958, he turned professional. His best achievements came in 1960 when he won the Paris–Tours and Tour de Picardie. In 1963 he finished third at the 1963 UCI Road World Championships. In total, he won 36 races during his career. He died of cancer.
