Brian Robinson (cyclist)
Brian Robinson (3 November 1930 – 25 October 2022) was an English road bicycle racer of the 1950s and early 1960s. He was the first Briton to finish the Tour de France and the first to win a Tour stage. He won the 1961 Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré stage race. His success as a professional cyclist in mainland Europe paved the way for other Britons such as Tom Simpson and Barry Hoban. Early life and amateur career Robinson grew up during the Second World War, which began when he was eight years old. His family lived in Ravensthorpe and moved to Mirfield in 1943. Both his parents worked at a factory producing parts for Halifax bombers, Henry at night and Milly by day. The 1961 Super Prestige Pernod was a series of races that included nineteen Road bicycle racing, road cycling events. It began with the 1961 Genoa–Nice, Genoa–Nice on 5 March and concluded with the 1961 Giro di Lombardia, Giro di Lombardia on 21 October. The overall title was won by French rider Jacques Anquetil. Critérium Du Dauphiné
The Critérium du Dauphiné, before 2010 known as the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, is an annual cycle sport, cycling road bicycle racing, road race in the Dauphiné region in the southeast of France. The race is run over eight days during the first half of June. It is part of the UCI World Tour calendar and counts as one of the foremost races in the lead-up to the Tour de France in July, along with the Tour de Suisse in the latter half of June. The race was inaugurated in 1947 by a local newspaper, the ''Le Dauphiné libéré, Dauphiné Libéré'', which was the event's title sponsor until 2009. Since 2010 Critérium du Dauphiné, 2010 the race has been organized by Amaury Sport Organisation, ASO, which also organizes most other prominent French cycling races, notably the Tour de France, Paris–Nice and Paris–Roubaix.
