The 1959–60 Santosh Trophy was the sixteenth edition of the Santosh Trophy, the main territorial competition in India. It was held in Nowgong, Assam. West Bengal Football Team
The West Bengal football team (), also known as IFA Bengal football team or earlier the Bengal football team, is an Indian football team representing West Bengal in Indian state football competitions including the Santosh Trophy. They were the second Indian team to participate in the continental top tier tournament – Asian Champion Club Tournament, by playing in the 1970 edition following Mysore in 1969. History Bengal made its debut in the national competitions at the 1941–42 Santosh Trophy. West Bengal have appeared in the Santosh Trophy finals 47 times, having won 33 titles, the most by any team. Puran Bahadur Thapa
Puran Bahadur Thapa (28 July 1928 – 2014) was an Indian footballer who played for the India national team and the Services football team. He scored a hat-trick for the national team in a 3–1 win against Pakistan in the 1954 Asian Quadrangular Football Tournament at the Eden Gardens. It was the second hat-trick by an Indian footballer post-independence in international football after Sheoo Mewalal. Thapa died in 2014. Tulsidas Balaram (30 November 1936 – 16 February 2023), also known as Tulsidas Balaraman, was an Indian association football, footballer. Chuni Goswami
Subimal "Chuni" Goswami (15 January 1938 – 30 April 2020) was an Indian professional footballer and first-class cricketer. As footballer, he played as a striker or winger, captained both the Mohun Bagan club and the India national team. He also served as the Sheriff of Kolkata. Goswami scored 12 goals in 37 international appearances. He was an Olympian, represented India national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He also led the team to achieve the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games, and earn the runners-up position at the 1964 AFC Asian Cup. Playing for the India national team under coaching of Syed Abdul Rahim, Goswami was also a first class cricketer, playing Ranji Trophy for Bengal. Mohammed Zulfiqaruddin
Mohammed Zulfiqaruddin was an Indian association football player who played for the India national football team. He was part of the Indian team that reached the Semi-final of 1956 Summer Olympics. Playing career Zulfiqaruddin began his club football with Hyderabad City Police FC, one of the strongest sides in Indian football. He represented India at the 1958 Asian Games. He captained the Andhra Pradesh team in Santosh Trophy from 1955 to 1967, and also captained the Andhra Police team in nationwide competitions such as the IFA Shield, Durand Cup and Rovers Cup. After outstanding performance with Hyderabad at the 1956–57 Santosh Trophy and winning the title defeating Bombay 4–1 in final, he along with Tulsidas Balaram were called up to the India national team. Mohammed Rahmatullah
Mohammad Rahmatullah was an Indian footballer who played as a forward, and manager. Rahmatullah played for the India national team and spent most of his career with Calcutta Football League giant Mohammedan Sporting. He later appeared with Bangladeshi outfit Dhaka Mohammedan and became one of the earliest Indians in post-independence period to take the international transfer, while other being legendary Mohammed Salim, who played for Celtic.
