1958–59 Real Madrid CF Season
The 1958–59 season was Real Madrid Club de Fútbol's 56th season in existence and the club's 28th consecutive season in the top flight of Spanish football. Summary During the summer Hungarian player Ferenc Puskás arrived to the club after a two-year FIFA ban on him due to his defection from communist Hungary. The move was controversial due to the player's age (31 years old) and him allegedly being overweight, the reasons why he had been already turned down by Juventus, Milan, and Manchester United. However, Puskas and Di Stefano completed a lethal duo with an astonishing campaign collecting the club's fourth consecutive European Cup, defeating Just Fontaine's Stade de Reims. However, Puskas missed the final match due to a technical decision by head coach Luis Carniglia, who was fired after that by club chairman Santiago Bernabéu. José María Zárraga
José María Zárraga Martín (15 August 1930 – 3 April 2012) was a Spanish professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Born in Las Arenas, Biscay, Zárraga signed for Real Madrid in 1949, spending the following two seasons with the reserve team. He made his La Liga debut on 14 October 1951 in a 3–1 home win against Valencia CF, finishing his first two years with the club with 48 games and two goals combined but failing to collect any silverware. Marcos Alonso (footballer, Born 1933)
Marcos Alonso Imaz (16 April 1933 – 6 March 2012), nicknamed Marquitos, was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. He was best known for his participation in Real Madrid's five European Cup conquests, mainly in the 1950s. Club career Marquitos was born in Santander, Cantabria. During his career, he played for his hometown club Racing de Santander, Real Madrid, Hércules CF, Real Murcia, Calvo Sotelo and local amateurs Toluca de Santander. With Real Madrid, Marquitos won six La Liga championships and five European Cups. In the 1955–56 edition of the latter, he scored a rare goal as he equalised 3–3 against Stade de Reims in an eventual 4–3 victory. Ángel Atienza Landeta (16 March 1931 – 23 August 2015) was a Spanish artist and association football, footballer who played as a defender (association football), defender for Real Madrid C.F., Real Madrid, with whom he won the inaugural European Cup. Football career Atienza was born in the Spanish capital of Madrid and retired from professional football on 1 July 1960. Miguel García Martín (19 May 1935 – 22 March 2014), known as Miche, was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. He played 115 games in La Liga for Real Madrid, Osasuna, Deportivo de La Coruña, Real Valladolid and Hércules. He won the European Cup in 1959 and 1960 for Real Madrid. Career Born in Salamanca in Castile and León, Miche began his career in the Tercera División with his hometown club UD Salamanca. Rafael Lesmes Bobed (9 November 1926 – 8 October 2012) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. Club career Lesmes was born in Ceuta. Over 12 La Liga seasons, he played for Real Valladolid (two spells) and Real Madrid, appearing in 263 games in the competition. He began his career with local Atlético Tetuán, and retired in 1962 at the age of 35. With Real Madrid, Lesmes was part of the team that won five consecutive European Cups. Subsequently, he worked with the club as a scout. International career Lesmes was selected for Spain's 1950 FIFA World Cup squad as an uncapped member. Jesús 'Chus' Herrera Alonso (5 February 1938 – 20 October 1962) was a Spanish Association football, footballer who played as a Forward (association football), forward. Club career Born in Cabueñes, Gijón, Herrera made his professional debuts with Real Oviedo in Segunda División, playing two seasons in that level with the club.
