1958–59 FC Basel Season
The 1958–59 season was Fussball Club Basel 1893's 65th season in their existence. It was their thirteenth consecutive season in the top flight of Swiss football after their promotion from the Nationalliga B the season 1945–46. They played their home games in the Landhof, in the Wettstein Quarter in Kleinbasel. Jules Düblin was the club's chairman for his 13th successive, but final, period. Düblin presided the club during the period July 1946 until Mai 1959 and in the club's history he is the most permanent president that the club has had to date. Overview The Austrian ex-international footballer Rudi Strittich was team manager for the second successive season. Fussball Club Basel 1893, widely known as FC Basel, FCB, or just Basel, is a Swiss professional Association football, football club based in Basel, in the Basel-Stadt, Canton of Basel-Stadt. Fredy Kehrli
Fredy Kehrli (21 September 1935 – 13 October 2008) was a Swiss footballer who played in the 1950s and 1960s. He played mainly in the position as defender, but also as midfielder. Kehrli first played for Biel-Bienne in the second tier of Swiss football. In the 1956–1957 Kehrli and the team won promotion to the Nationalliga A. But at the end of the season the team suffered relegation. Kehrli then joined FC Basel's first team for their 1958–59 season under manager Rudi Strittich. After playing in three test games, Kehrli played his domestic league debut for his new club in the first game of the season, on 31 August 1958, as Basel were defeated 1–2 by La Chaux-de-Fonds. FC Grenchen is a Swiss football club, based in Grenchen. They currently play in the 2. Liga, and play their matches at the Brühl Stadium. History FC Grenchen was founded in 1906. In 1937 they gained promotion to the top league of Swiss football, Nationalliga A, in these inter-war years they came runners-up in this league three times, and runner up in the cup, but their biggest success came post-war coming second in the league one further time and winning the cup in 1959. The following is the summary of the Swiss National League in the 1956–57 football season, both Nationalliga A and Nationalliga B. This was the 60th season of top-tier and the 59th season of second-tier football in Switzerland. Overview The Swiss Football Association (ASF/SFV) had 28 member clubs at this time which were divided into two divisions of 14 teams each. The teams played a double round-robin to decide their table positions. Two points were awarded for a win and one point was awarded for a draw. The top tier (NLA) was contested by the top 12 teams from the previous 1955–56 season and the two newly promoted teams Winterthur and Young Fellows. The champions would qualify for the 1957–58 European Cup and the last two teams in the league table at the end of the season were to be relegated. Karlsruher SC
Karlsruher Sport-Club Mühlburg-Phönix e. V., better known as Karlsruher SC, is a Football in Germany, German association football club, based in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg that currently plays in the 2. Antoine Kohn
Antoine "Spitz" Kohn (1 November 1933 – 24 November 2012) was a Luxembourgish football player and football manager. Club career Kohn played as a striker, and spent most of his career plying his trade abroad, in Germany, Switzerland, and finally Netherlands, where he later became a successful manager. During his playing days, he earned the nickname "Spitz" for his ferocity and goal-scoring instinct. International career Kohn made his debut for Luxembourg in a September 1953 World Cup qualification match against France, in which he immediately scored a goal. Roberto Frigerio
Roberto Frigerio (16 May 1938 – 9 April 2023) was a Swiss professional footballer who played as a forward. Career Early years Frigerio played youth football for FC Chiasso. Aged just 16 years old he made his Nationalliga A debut with their first team, on 6 March 1955, and he scored his first goal with them during the same game. It was the team's second goal as they won 2–0 in the Landhof against Basel. He stayed with the team for the 1955–56 season, in which he made six appearances scoring three goals. In the summer of 1956, he transferred to FC Schaffhausen and although they suffered relegation at the end of the 1956–57 season he stayed with them for the following season before moving on.
