1956–57 Eerste Divisie
The 1956–57 Eerste Divisie was the first season in the history of the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of football in the Netherlands. The league had been divided in two, with an Eerste Divisie A and an Eerste Divisie B, each comprising 16 teams. The two champions, ADO Den Haag and Blauw-Wit Amsterdam, were promoted to the Eredivisie, while the teams finishing last in each division, Emma and EBOH, both of Dordrecht, were relegated to the Tweede Divisie. The composition of the league was based on the results of the previous season. The teams that had finished 10th to 18th in the Hoofdklasse A and Hoofdklasse B, then the country's highest tiers, and 14 teams from the Eerste Klasse were placed in the Eerste Divisie. The Eerste Divisie (; ) is the second-highest tier of football in the Netherlands. It is linked with the top-level Eredivisie via promotion/relegation systems. It is also known as the Keuken Kampioen Divisie due to sponsorship reasons, while previously it was known as Jupiler League for the same reason. History The Eerste Divisie consists of 20 clubs, who play each other in a double round-robin league, with each club playing the other club home and away. Each club plays every other club once in the first half of the season before the league takes a winter break around the Christmas and New Year's holiday season. The second half of the season sees the same fixtures as the first half, with the stadiums changed, although the two halves are not played in the same order. Amsterdamsche Football Club Door Wilskracht Sterk (), also referred to as AFC DWS, Door Wilskracht Sterk or simply DWS, is a Dutch football club from Amsterdam, currently competing in the Derde Klasse (), the sixth tier of amateur football in the Netherlands. ASC De Volewijckers is a Dutch football club that plays in the Vierde Klasse. It is a continuation of ASV–DWV and AVV De Volewijckers. History ASV–DWV ASV-DWV or Door Wilskracht Verkregen was founded on 12 May 1912 in present-day Amsterdam-Noord. Its home ground was Sportpark Elzenhagen. ASV-DWV was promoted to first class, the highest amateur football level in the 1913–14 season. As a result of a flood disaster in 1916, the entire accommodation was destroyed.
