1951 Torneio Rio-São Paulo
The 1951 Torneio Rio São Paulo was the 5th edition of the Torneio Rio-São Paulo. It was disputed between 30 January to 11 April. Participants Torneio Início A Torneio Início was also held, similar to those played in the Carioca and São Paulo championships. The matches were played on the same day (30 January) at the Estádio do Maracanã. Jair Da Rosa Pinto
Jair da Rosa Pinto (21 March 1921 – 28 July 2005), or simply Jair, was an association footballer who played offensive midfielder – one of the leading Brazilian men's footballers of the 1940s and 1950s, who is best remembered for his performance in Brazil's 1950 FIFA World Cup campaign. Usually playing as an inside-forward, Jair da Rosa was noted for his free-role style of play and was most known for his pace and technical ability. Pacaembu Stadium (, ; named after the Pacaembu neighbourhood), currently known as Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu for sponsorship reasons, is an association football stadium in São Paulo, Brazil. Located in the Pacaembu neighbourhood, it is owned by Municipal Prefecture of São Paulo. The stadium was inaugurated on 27 April 1940, in the presence of the Brazilian President Getúlio Vargas, the interventor Adhemar de Barros and the mayor of São Paulo, Prestes Maia. The stadium used to hold 40,199 people and its pitch dimensions are 104 m of length by 70 m of width, but is currently undergoing a renovation that will reduce capacity. Jackson Nascimento
Jackson Nascimento (born 24 August 1924) is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Career Revealed by Athletico Paranaense in 1943, Jackson Nascimento played for the club until 1950, being state champion in 1943, 1945 and 1949. In 1950 he transferred to Corinthians, where he was state champion in 1952. He returned to Athletico where he retired in 1956, and He became the second highest scorer in history (just behind Sicupira), with 143 goals in 196 matches, totaling both spells. Personal life After retiring at age 30 as a player, he returned as a coach in 1958, becoming state champion once again with Athletico. He decided to leave football permanently and trained as a lawyer. On 24 August 2024 he completed 100 years of life, being honored. Baltazar (footballer, Born 1926)
Oswaldo da Silva (14 January 1926 – 25 March 1997), commonly known as Baltazar, was a Brazilian footballer. Nicknamed ''Cabecinha de Ouro'' (''Golden Head'') by fans for his heading ability, he played as a forward. Club career Baltazar played for União Monte Alegre, Jabaquara, Corinthians, Juventus and União Paulista. International career Baltazar also represented the Brazil national team, including at the 1950 World Cup and 1954 World Cup. He played four matches, scoring three goals, two against Mexico and one against Switzerland. He is the only player to score in two different opening world cup matches, netting one goal in 1950 and the other in 1954. He died in São Paulo aged 71. The Torneio Início Paulista () was a traditional tournament that took place in Brazil marking the start date of the state championships.
