1950–51 Tri-Cities Blackhawks Season
The 1950–51 NBA season was the Tri-Cities Blackhawks' fifth season of play, their second season in the NBA, and their last season played in Moline, IL while representing the Tri-Cities naming convention that also supported Rock Island, IL and Davenport, IA during that period of time. It also signaled the last season under the Blackhawks name, as they would go on to shorten it to just the Hawks following their move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the following season. Dave MacMillan
David MacMillan (December 24, 1886 – July 9, 1963) was an American basketball coach. He was a longtime head coach at the University of Minnesota (18 seasons, 1927–42, 1945–48), and briefly coached the NBA's Tri-Cities Blackhawks in 1950, succeeding Red Auerbach. Before Minnesota, MacMillan was the head coach at the University of Idaho in Moscow, his alma mater. He led the Vandals for seven seasons, from 1920 to 1927, the last six in the Pacific Coast Conference. In Idaho's first two seasons in the PCC, his upstart program won consecutive conference titles in 1922 He also coached baseball and freshman football at Idaho, and baseball at Minnesota from 1942 through 1947. Born in New York City, he attended Oberlin College in Ohio before transferring to the University of Idaho. MacMillan resigned at Minnesota at age 62 in March 1948, citing health reasons. Indianapolis Olympians
The Indianapolis Olympians were a founding National Basketball Association (NBA) team based in Indianapolis. They were founded in 1949 and folded in 1953. Their home arena was Butler Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University, now known as Hinkle Fieldhouse. Franchise history The Olympians were founded in 1949 and were originally slated to play in the National Basketball League (NBL). However, with the merger of the NBL and the Basketball Association of America, the franchise played its first games in the newly formed National Basketball Association (NBA), essentially replacing the previously existing Indianapolis Jets franchise. Noble Jorgensen
Noble Gordon "Jorgy" Jorgensen (May 18, 1925 – November 2, 1982) was an American professional basketball player. He was a center in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and other leagues. He was a member of Portland's first professional basketball championship when Portland Indians won the Pacific Coast Professional Basketball League in 1948. He retired from professional basketball following the 1952–53 NBA season. He played high school basketball for Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Detroit Pistons are an American professional basketball team based in Detroit. The Pistons compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference. The team plays its home games at Little Caesars Arena, located in Midtown Detroit. Dwight Eddleman
Thomas Dwight "Dike" Eddleman (December 27, 1922 – August 1, 2001) was an American athlete who was generally considered the greatest athlete in the history of athletics at the University of Illinois. Eddleman participated on the university's basketball, track and field, and football teams between the years of 1942 and 1949. Eddleman earned a combined 11 varsity letters in his career at the university, during which he also became a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Eddleman was born in Centralia, Illinois, and attended Centralia High School. On October 24, 2008, Eddleman was named a Distinguished Alumni of Centralia High school. He, along with five others, including James Brady, were the first to be named Distinguished Alumni. His wife, Teddy Eddleman, accepted his award.
