1950–51 National Football League (Ireland)
The 1950–51 National Football League was the 20th staging of the National Football League (Ireland), National Football League, an annual Gaelic football tournament for the Gaelic Athletic Association county teams of Ireland. Thirty counties participated; Kilkenny senior football team, Kilkenny and Limerick senior football team, Limerick did not participate. Meath won the home final and flew to New York for the real final. Despite some players being weakened by Smallpox vaccine, smallpox vaccination, they beat New York by a goal and sailed home in triumph on the SS Nieuw Amsterdam (1937), SS ''Nieuw Amsterdam''. Paddy Meegan
Patrick Meegan (1922 – 14 November 2012) was an Irish people, Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a right corner-forward at senior level for the Meath county football team, Meath county team. Meegan made his first appearance for the team during the 1942 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, 1942 championship and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement after the 1954 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, 1954 championship. During that time he won two All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, All-Ireland medals, five Leinster Senior Football Championship, Leinster medals and two National Football League (Ireland), National Football League medals. New York Senior Football Team
The New York county football team represents the New York metropolitan area in men's Gaelic football and is governed by New York GAA, the County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in three of the four major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, Tailteann Cup and the Connacht Senior Football Championship; it does not currently compete in the National Football League.
