Below are the squads for the 1950 FIFA World Cup final tournament in Brazil. This was the first World Cup where the players' jerseys featured back numbers (allowed in football since 1944), though no teams had fixed numbers for each player. 1950 FIFA World Cup
The 1950 FIFA World Cup was the 4th edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international Association football, football championship for senior men's national teams. It was held in Brazil from 24 June to 16 July 1950. It was the first World Cup tournament in over twelve years, as the 1942 and 1946 World Cups were cancelled due to World War II. Italy national football team, Italy, the two-time defending champions, were eliminated in the first round for the first time in history. Zizinho
Thomaz Soares da Silva, also known as Zizinho (; 14 September 1921 – 8 February 2002), was a Brazilian footballer who played as an attacking midfielder for the Brazil national football team. He came to international prominence at the 1950 World Cup, where he scored two goals. He was lauded as a complete player, with an array of offensive skills such as his dribbling, passing, and shooting ability with both feet, as well as his accuracy from dead ball situations and extraordinary vision. He was Pelé's idol, and is often considered one of the best Brazilian men's footballers of the pre-Pelé era. Ely Do Amparo
Ely do Amparo (14 May 1921 – 9 March 1991), commonly known as just Ely, was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a centre-back. He played for Brazil in two World Cups. Career Ely do Amparo started his career with América in 1939. He joined Canto do Rio in 1940, leaving the club in 1945 to join Vasco. Ely, as part of Vasco's ''Expresso da Vitória'' squad, won the Campeonato Carioca in 1945, 1947, 1949, 1950 and in 1952, winning the South American Club Championship in 1948 as well. Ely was transferred to Sport in 1953, winning the Campeonato Pernambucano in that year and in 1955, when he retired. Carlos José Castilho
Carlos José Castilho (November 27, 1927 – February 2, 1987) was a Brazilian football goalkeeper. He was born in Rio de Janeiro and played for Fluminense from 1947 to 1964 and for Brazil. He was a member of the Brazil squad in four World Cups: 1950, 1954, 1958 and 1962. Castilho has the all-time record of matches played in Fluminense FC history, with 699 appearances. He was noted as a goalkeeper for making seemingly impossible saves. Due to his good luck, his opponents' supporters called him "Leiteria" (lucky man) and Fluminense supporters called him "Saint Castilho". He was daltonic and he believed he was favored because he saw yellow balls as if they were red, though he had trouble at night with white balls. Oswaldo da Silva (14 January 1926 – 25 March 1997), commonly known as Baltazar, was a Brazilian footballer. Nicknamed ''Cabecinha de Ouro'' (''Golden Head'') by fans for his heading ability, he played as a forward. Club career Baltazar played for União Monte Alegre, Jabaquara, Corinthians, Juventus and União Paulista. International career Baltazar also represented the Brazil national team, including at the 1950 World Cup and 1954 World Cup. He played four matches, scoring three goals, two against Mexico and one against Switzerland. Alfredo dos Santos (January 1, 1920 – October 23, 1997), best known as Alfredo II, was a Brazilian footballer in midfielder role. He was born in Rio de Janeiro. Francisco Aramburu, or ''Chico'' (7 January 1922 – 1 October 1997) was a Brazilian footballer who played as a striker.
