The following is the summary of the Swiss National League in the 1948–49 football season, both Nationalliga A and Nationalliga B. This was the 52nd season of top-tier and the 51st season of second-tier football in Switzerland. Overview The Swiss Football Association (ASF/SFV) had 28 member clubs at this time which were divided into two divisions of 14 teams each. The teams played a double round-robin to decide their table positions. Two points were awarded for a win and one point was awarded for a draw. The top tier (NLA) was contested by the top 12 teams from the previous season and the two newly promoted teams Urania Genève Sport and Chiasso. The last two teams in the league table at the end of the season were to be relegated. Neuchâtel Xamax FCS
Neuchâtel Xamax Football Club Serrières or Neuchâtel Xamax FCS () is a Swiss football club based in Neuchâtel. It was created in 1970 through a merger between FC Cantonal, founded in 1906 and Swiss champions of 1916, and FC Xamax founded in 1912. The name ''Xamax'' comes from legendary Swiss international player 'Xam' Max Abegglen, one of the founding members. Stadion Gurzelen
Gurzelen Stadion was a multi-purpose stadium in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. It has mostly been used for football matches and was the home ground of FC Biel-Bienne. The capacity of the stadium was 5,500. Gurzelen Stadion was set to be demolished in mid 2016. The Landhof was a sports stadium in the district Basel-Wettstein in Kleinbasel, Basel. It was the former and first home stadium of FC Basel. It is mentioned for the first time in a chronicle in the second half of the 18th century as a ''nice summer house with beautiful property''.
