1948–49 Cupa României
The 1948–49 Cupa României was the 12th edition of Romania's most prestigious football cup competition. The title was won by CSCA București against CSU Cluj. Format The competition is an annual knockout tournament. In the first round proper, two pots are made, the first pot with Divizia A teams and other teams till 16 and the second pot with the rest of teams qualified in this phase. First-pot teams will play away. Each tie is played as a single leg. In the first round proper, if a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes in extra time, and if the score is still tied after 120 minutes, the team from the lower league will qualify. In the rest of the rounds, if a match is drawn after 90 minutes, the game goes in extra time, and if the score is still tied after 120 minutes, the team who plays away will qualify. FC Steaua București
FC Steaua București was a Romanian professional football club of which two current entities are claiming the records. The original ''FC Steaua București'' team was part of the namesake CSA Steaua București sports club and belonged to the Ministry of National Defence. In 1998, the club and facilities were separated from the sports club and taken over by a group of shareholders in a post-Ceaușescu privatisation scheme, allegedly leading to one of the shareholders ( Gigi Becali) acquiring full ownership five years later. However, CSA Steaua București sued the football club in 2011, claiming that this was a new entity; the two have since been in a legal conflict regarding the ownership of the Steaua brand and honours, which resulted in multiple court cases and the forced change of the name of ''FC Steaua București'' to FCSB in early 2017. CS Gaz Metan Mediaș
Clubul Sportiv Gaz Metan Mediaș (), commonly known as Gaz Metan Mediaș or simply as Gaz Metan, was a Romanian professional football club based in Mediaș, Sibiu County. Founded in 1945 as ''Karres Mediaș'', the team spent most of its existence in the second division. It also participated in 16 seasons of the Liga I, the highest level of the Romanian league system, and lost a Cupa României final to CCA București in 1951. Gaz Metan registered its debut in European competitions in the 2011–12 campaign, when it defeated KuPS and Mainz 05 prior to being eliminated by Austria Wien in the UEFA Europa League play-off round. FC Politehnica Timișoara
Fotbal Club Politehnica Timișoara (), commonly known as Politehnica Timișoara or simply Poli Timișoara, was a Romanian football club from Timișoara, Timiș County, established in 1921 and dissolved in 2012. During its existence, the team won two Cupa României trophies and was twice runner-up in the Liga I. It amassed 49 seasons in the latter competition. Named after and initially run by the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, the club was founded in 1921 by mathematician Traian Lalescu. Gloria CFR Galați was a football club based in Galaţi, Galați County, Romania. It was founded in 1932 and dissolved in 1970. History The club was founded in 1932 January 1, at the initiative of the railroad workers from Galați, after the merger of ''Șoimii Gloria'' (founded in 1927) with ''CFR''. CS Târgu Mureș was a football club based in Târgu Mureș, Mureș County in central Romania. It was founded in 1944 and it soon became one of the best teams from Mureș. The club was dissolved in 1960. Dermata Cluj was a football club from Cluj-Napoca, Cluj County, dissolved in 1967. History The shoes factory from Cluj-Napoca called Echo Cluj created the team and was the main sponsor of the team until 1948. Notable players from that time was Darock, Bagoly, Kallo, Kiss, Toth. Ferencz Ronay was the first big manager who create a competitive team, and played for the first time in Divizia A, the Romanian First Football League. Faur București
Faur București was a football club based in Bucharest, Romania. History The club was established in 1935 as Metalul by workers at Malaxa. Prior to World War II they were known as Titanii and Rogifer. After the nationalisation of Malaxa, the club was renamed 23 August before becoming Metalochimic. In 1947–48 the club won promotion from Divizia B into Divizia A. However, they finished second bottom of the division the following season, and were relegated back to Divizia B. RSSSF The club was later renamed Energia and then back to Metalul again.
