Doggie Julian
Alvin Fred "Doggie" Julian (April 5, 1901 – July 28, 1967) was an American college football coach, a college basketball player and coach, and an National Basketball Association (NBA) coach. Early life and education Julian was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. He attended Bucknell University, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball, and from which he graduated in 1923 Career Playing career From 1923 to 1926, Julian played minor league baseball with a number of clubs: the Reading Keystones, the Harrisburg Senators, the York White Roses, the Chambersburg Maroons, and the Lawrence Merry Macks. Coaching career Julian served as the head college basketball coach at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, from 1936 to 1945, at the College of the Holy Cross from 1945 to 1948, and at Dartmouth College from 1950 to 1967, compiling a career college basketball record of 379–332. NYU Violets Men's Basketball
The NYU Violets men's basketball team is the college basketball team that represents New York University, located in New York City. The team currently competes in NCAA Division III (NCAA), Division III as a member of the University Athletic Association. NYU previously competed as an NCAA Division I (NCAA), Division I program until 1971, when the team was disbanded due to a budget crisis. The team was reinstated in 1983 as a Division III program. NYU played in two NCAA Men's Division I Final Four appearances by school, NCAA Division I Final Fours, and can lay claim to two national championships predating the creation of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, NCAA tournament (1920 and 1935). The 1948–49 BAA season was the Warriors' 3rd season in the NBA. The team finished at fourth place out of six teams in the BAA East Division and was eliminated in the East Division Semifinals by the Washington Capitols in two games. 1948–49 New York Knicks Season
The 1948–49 New York Knicks season was the third 1948–49 BAA season, season for the team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later became the National Basketball Association (NBA). The New York Knicks, Knicks had a 32–28 record in 1948–49 and finished second in the Eastern Division, six games behind the Washington Capitols. New York qualified for the 1949 NBA Playoffs, playoffs, and defeated the Baltimore Bullets (1944–54), Baltimore Bullets 2–1 in a best-of-three series to earn a place in the Eastern Division finals. In the division championship series, the Knicks lost to the Capitols, two games to one. 1948–49 Minneapolis Lakers Season
The 1948–49 BAA season was the Lakers' first season in the Basketball Association of America (BAA) (which later became the National Basketball Association (NBA) after the conclusion of this season). This season saw the Lakers win their first BAA championship, defeating the Washington Capitols in six games in the BAA Finals. The last remaining active member of the 1948–49 Minneapolis Lakers was center George Mikan, who played his final NBA game in the 1955–56 season, although he missed the 1954–55 season. After long being honored by the Lakers following their eventual move to Los Angeles, Mikan's #99 would eventually be retired properly (albeit posthumously) on October 30, 2022. The Iowa State Cyclones men's basketball team represents Iowa State University (ISU) and competes in the Big 12 Conference of NCAA Division I. The Cyclones play their home games at Hilton Coliseum on Iowa State's campus. History Early years (1908–1980) From 1907 to 1928, the Cyclones played in the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association, managing a few winning records in-conference but no championships. In 1929, the Cyclones moved to the Big Six Conference and named Louis Menze as head coach.
