1944–45 Gauliga Donau-Alpenland
The 1944–45 Gauliga Donau-Alpenland was the seventh and final season of the Gauliga Donau-Alpenland, formerly the Gauliga Ostmark, the first tier of football in German-annexed Austria from 1938 to 1945. The 1944–45 edition was not completed and stopped after nine rounds. Nazi Germany surrendered on 8 May 1945 and, in the following season, an independent Austrian football championship was held again. Table The 1944–45 season saw two new clubs in the league, SC Rapid Oberlaa and SK Admira Wien. As the league was being expanded for next season from 10 to 12 clubs, no relegation took place. * The fixture between Wiener Sportclub and SC Rapid Oberlaa was abandoned; this game was recorded as a 0-0 loss against both sides, which explains why there appear to be two more losses than victories. The Gauliga Ostmark, renamed Gauliga Donau-Alpenland in 1941, was the highest football league in Austria after its annexation by Germany in 1938. Shortly after the occupation, the Nazis reorganised the administrative regions in Austria, and the seven '' Gaue'' ''Carinthia'', ''Niederdonau'', ''Oberdonau'', ''Salzburg'', ''Styria'', ''Vienna'' and '' Tyrol-Vorarlberg'' replaced the country of Austria. From 1941, the northernmost region of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, '' Drava Banovina'', became part of the ''Gaue'' ''Carinthia'' and ''Styria''. Admira Wacker is an Austrian professional football club based in Maria Enzersdorf, a town in the Mödling District of Lower Austria. The team competes in the 2. Liga, the second tier of the Austrian football league system. The club was formed as Admira/Wacker in 1971 through the merger of SK Admira and SC Wacker, making it the legal successor to both clubs and inheriting their combined titles and achievements. A Gauliga () was the highest level of play in German football from 1933 to 1945. The leagues were introduced in 1933, after the Nazi takeover of power by the National Socialist League of the Reich for Physical Exercise. Name The German word ''Gauliga'' is composed of Gau, approximately meaning county or region, and ''Liga'', or league. The plural is ''Gauligen''. While the name Gauliga is not in use in German football any more, mainly because it is attached to the Nazi past, some sports in Germany still have Gauligen, like gymnastics and faustball. Wiener Athletiksport Club, also known as Wiener AC or WAC, is an Austrian sports club in Vienna. It is particularly noted for its hockey team, which was established in 1900. Its football team won the Austrian Championships and was Runner-up in the Mitropa Cup. History The football section of the club was founded on 14 October 1897. By 1904, it had won the Challenge Cup and the Wiener Tagblatt Pokal three times each. They were the most important trophies in Austrian football at the time. In September 1910, most of the first team left the club to found a new club, Wiener AF. The Wiener Sport-Club, sometimes abbreviated as WSC, was established in 1883 in Vienna, Austria and is one of the country's oldest athletics clubs. Their traditional home is in the Dornbach quarter of the city ( 17th district). History At various times throughout its history the club has had departments for fencing, boxing, wrestling, cycling, handball, track and field, field hockey, tennis, squash, football and water polo. First Vienna FC is an Austrian football club based in the Döbling district of Vienna. Established on 22 August 1894, it is the country's oldest team and has played a notable role in the history of the game there.
