1943–44 Mexican Primera División Season
The 1943–44 season was the inaugural edition of the Mexican professional league known as Liga Mayor, it was the first true national and professional league in Mexico, organized by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF). It had 10 participating clubs, which were from Mexico City, Jalisco and Veracruz. Asturias were the first champions. Liga MX
Liga MX, also known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Mexico and the highest level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Liga Mayor (1943–1949) and also as Primera División de México (1949–2012), it has 18 participating clubs, with each season divided into two short tournaments, ''Apertura'' from July to December and ''Clausura'' from January to May. The champions are decided by a final phase called ''"liguilla"''. Since 2020, promotion and relegation has been suspended, which is to last until 2026. The league currently ranks first in CONCACAF's league ranking index. According to the International Federation of Football History & Statistics, IFFHS, Liga MX was ranked as the 10th strongest league in the first decade of the 21st century. Parque Asturias
Parque Asturias was a multi-use stadium in Mexico City, Mexico. It was initially used as the stadium of Asturias F.C. and Atlante F.C. matches. It was replaced by Estadio Azteca in 1966. The capacity of the stadium was 25,000 spectators. History On March 1, 1936, being president José Díaz Bernardo, opened Parque Asturias with a match between Asturias and Botafogo Brazil. Club Puebla
Club Puebla is a Mexican professional Association football, football club based in Puebla (city), Puebla. It competes in Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football league system, Mexican football. Founded in 1944 as Puebla Fútbol Club, and then changed to its current name in 2016. Club León
Club León is a Mexican professional Association football, football club based in León, Guanajuato, León, Guanajuato, that competes in Liga MX, the top division of Mexican football league system, Mexican football. The club was founded in 1944 as Unión-León, after the merger of Unión de Curtidores and the Selección de Guanajuato. Roberto José Aballay (22 November 1922 – ) was an Argentine football player who played as a striker. Aballay started his career in 1940 for River Plate, Banfield and San Lorenzo de Almagro. José Menéndez Menéndez (1846–1918) was a Spanish businessman based in Argentina and Chilean Patagonia. He was the initiator of many large companies that remain to this day. Twenty-first century scholarship has uncovered the history of Menéndez and his business partners in the Sara Braun, Braun family in the Selkʼnam genocide, genocide of the Indigenous Selkʼnam people of Patagonia. Biography Early years Menéndez was born in Santo Domingo de Miranda (Avilés), Spain, on November 2, 1846, the second child of seven from the marriage of Manuel Menéndez Cañedo and Alvarez, and María Menéndez Granda, peasants of modest means.
