1942–43 NHL Season
The 1942–43 NHL season was the 26th season of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Brooklyn Americans were dropped, leaving six teams played 50 games each. This is the first season of the "Original Six" era of the NHL. The league's long-time president Frank Calder died due to heart disease. The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Boston Bruins to win the Stanley Cup. The Boston Bruins are a professional ice hockey team based in Boston. Phil Hergesheimer
Philip "Nip" Hergesheimer (July 9, 1914 — March 6, 2004) was a Canadian professional ice hockey right winger who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Chicago Black Hawks and Boston Bruins between 1939 and 1942. A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Hergesheimer was the brother of fellow NHL player Wally Hergesheimer. The rest of Phil's career, which lasted between 1934 and 1955, was spent in various minor leagues. Playing career Among the minor league teams he played for were the Winnipeg Falcons, Boston Cubs, London Tecumsehs, Minneapolis Millers, Cleveland Barons, Ottawa Commandos, St. John's Navy, Philadelphia Rockets, (also Head Coach), Cincinnati Mohawks, Kelowna Packers, and Kamloop Elks. Dutch Hiller
Wilbert Carl "Dutch, Wib" Hiller (May 11, 1915 – November 12, 2005) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He played nine seasons in the National Hockey League from 1938 to 1946 with the New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings, Boston Bruins, and Montreal Canadiens The rest of his career, which lasted from 1935 to 1949, was spent in various minor leagues, including one season in the English National League. He won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1940 with the Rangers and in 1946 with the Canadiens. Hiller was born in Berlin, now Kitchener, Ontario on May 11, 1915. Hiller's hockey career began with stints playing for the Kitchener Empires, the Sudbury Cub Wolves and the Sudbury Frood Miners. Murph Chamberlain
Erwin Groves "Murph" Chamberlain (February 14, 1915 in Shawville, Quebec – May 8, 1986) was a Canadian ice hockey centre who played in the National Hockey League for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Brooklyn Americans and Boston Bruins between 1937 and 1949. He won the Stanley Cup twice, in 1944 and 1946, both with Montreal. Playing career before NHL Chamberlain, whose first name was spelled "Irwin" in his hometown newspaper, reportedly began his hockey career in Shawville, PQ. He was reportedly added to the Toronto Maple Leafs reserve list by 1937 after steadily improving his game while playing in Northern Ontario. Gordie Drillon
Gordon Arthur Drillon (October 23, 1913 – September 23, 1986) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. From 1936 through to 1942 he was part of one of the National Hockey League (NHL)'s most prolific scoring lines as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He won a Stanley Cup during the 1941–42 season, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975. Playing career Drillon played seven seasons in the NHL, six of those with Toronto and one with the Montreal Canadiens. A winger noted for his deadly accurate shot, he created a specific style of play that made him a leading scorer. Drillon's strong frame made it difficult for opposing defencemen to clear him from the front of the net.
