Divizia A
Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1 and officially known as SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Romania and the highest level of the Romanian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation from and to Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. Liga I was established in 1909 and commenced play for the 1909–10 Divizia A, 1909–10 campaign, being currently 25th in UEFA's UEFA coefficient#League coefficient, league coefficient ranking list. It is administered by the Liga Profesionistă de Fotbal, also known by the acronym LPF. Lucian Gruin
Lucian Gruin (31 October 1913 – 12 May 1994) was a Romanian footballer who played as a striker. Club career Gruin was born on 31 October 1913 in Temesvár, Austria-Hungary (now Romania), starting to play football in 1932 at local club, Dacia. Three years later he went to play for Chinezul Timișoara where he made his Divizia A debut on 16 September 1934 in a 6–5 victory against Ripensia Timișoara. One year later he switched teams again, going at Venus București. He won the championship with Venus in the 1936–37 season, coach Ferenc Plattkó giving him 22 appearances in which he scored 10 goals. Afterwards he played in the first match of a Romanian team in a European competition, scoring once in the 6–4 loss to Újpest in the first leg from the first round of the 1937 Mitropa Cup. Colea Vâlcov
Nicolae 'Colea' Vâlcov (23 February 1909 – 31 March 1970) was a Romanian football player and manager. Vâlcov was born in Bolgrad, Russian Empire. He was part of the famous offensive line of Venus București in the 1930s, together with his brothers, Petea and Volodea. He was arguably the most talented of the three, with a great header (his most feared weapon) and good anticipation in front of the goal. The three brothers, originally Bulgarians from Moldova, are included in the list of the greatest football players in the history of club football Venus București. Two of his brothers had final tragics. First, Petea died on the front in 1943 World War II, on the eastern front, fighting the Soviets, And almost over a decade, Volodea died of tuberculosis. Alfred Eisenbeisser
Alfred Eisenbeisser () (7 April 1908 in Cernăuţi, Austria-Hungary (now in Ukraine) - 1 July 1991 in Berlin, Germany) was a Romanian football player and figure skater of German ethnicity. As a footballer, he played for Romania at 1930 FIFA World Cup, while as a figure skater he participated at the 1936 Winter Olympic Games. Career Football Alfred Eisenbeisser started his career at Jahn Cernăuţi. In 1930, he joined another team from Cernăuţi, Dragoş Vodă, and shortly after he was selected in the Romania squad for the 1930 FIFA World Cup. He made his debut for the Romania national football team at the tournament, playing in the two matches against Peru and Uruguay. Andrei Bărbulescu
Andrei Bărbulescu (16 October 1909 – 30 July 1987) was a Romanian football midfielder who played for Romania at the 1938 World Cup. He also played ice hockey, representing the national team at the 1947 Ice Hockey World Championships. Football career Club career Andrei Bărbulescu was born on 16 October 1909 in Slatina, Romania and he started playing football at the junior squads of Venus București in 1924. In 1927, he went to play for Juventus București where he made his debut in senior football on 6 April 1930, coach György Hlavay using him all the minutes in a 2–2 with Maccabi București from the regional championship. Gheorghe Albu (12 September 1909 – 26 June 1974) was a Romanian Association football, football player and Manager (association football), manager. He participated with Romania national football team, Romania's national team at the 1934 FIFA World Cup, 1934 World Cup. Lazăr Sfera (29 April 1909, in Lokve, Alibunar, Végszentmihály, Austria-Hungary (today Lokve, Serbia) – 24 April 1992) was a Romanian footballer who played as a Defender (association football), defender. Career He began his career at the youth team of FC Politehnica Timișoara, Politehnica Timișoara from 1923 to 1925. He stayed at the club until 1929. He then left for Liga I, Divizia A club Banatul Timișoara before signing for one season at FC Victoria Cluj, Rômania Cluj. He then left for FC Universitatea Cluj, Universitatea Cluj until 1934. Carol Burdan (born 1912, date of death unknown) was a Romanian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. International career Carol Burdan played three matches for Romania, making his debut on 14 October 1934 under coach Alexandru Săvulescu in friendly which ended 3–3 against Poland. Petea Vâlcov
Petre "Petea" Vâlcov (1910 – 16 November 1943) was a Romanian football player. Forming a well-known attacking triple for Venus București alongside his two brothers, Colea and Volodea, he was one of the most efficient goal-scorers in the Romanian First League. Career He played for only two clubs : Mihai Viteazu Chişinău and Venus București. Despite his goalscoring ability, he was never the top-goalscorer of the Divizia A. International career Petea Vâlcov made his debut for the national side in a June 1933 Balkan Cup match against Bulgaria. He had a great spell and scored two goals as Romania won 7–0. Kostas Choumis
Kostas Choumis (, , born 20 November 1913 in Piraeus, Greece – deceased 20 July 1981 in Athens) was a Greek-Romanian football player who played as a striker. He is often regarded in Greece and Romania as one of the greatest strikers from the 1930s. Club career Choumis was born on 20 November 1913 in Piraeus, Greece, starting to play junior level football in 1929 at local club, Ethnikos. In 1933 he made his senior debut for Ethnikos. He won the South Division championship with Ethnikos in the 1934–1935 season, scoring 15 goals in 10 matches.
