1927–28 British Home Championship
The 1927–28 British Home Championship was an international football tournament played during the 1927–28 season between the British Home Nations. The competition was won by Wales who did not lose a game and only dropped a single point during the tournament. This championship is most notable for what became known as the "Wembley Wizards" when a scratch Scottish team crushed a highly regarded England side 5–1 at the English national stadium of Wembley. Neither England nor Scotland placed in the top two, something that would not happen again for 56 years, until the final British Home Championship in 1984. England had endured a dreadful run of form in the years following the First World War, only managing to even share the trophy once in the previous eight years. Alex Jackson (footballer, Born 1905)
Alexander Skinner Jackson (12 May 1905 – 15 November 1946) was a Scottish association football, footballer who played for clubs including Dumbarton F.C., Dumbarton, Bethlehem Steel F.C. (1907–30), Bethlehem Steel, Aberdeen F.C., Aberdeen, Huddersfield Town A.F.C., Huddersfield Town, Chelsea F.C., Chelsea and OGC Nice, Nice; he won the English Football League title with Huddersfield in 1925–26 in English football, 1925–26. The World Football Elo Ratings are a ranking system for men's national association football teams that is published by the website eloratings.net. It is based on the Elo rating system but includes modifications to take various football-specific variables into account, like the margin of victory, importance of a match, and home field advantage. Other implementations of the Elo rating system are possible and there is no single nor any official Elo ranking for football teams. Since being developed, the Elo rankings have been found to have the highest predictive capability for football matches. Willie Davies (footballer)
William Davies (10 March 1900 – 1953) was a Welsh professional footballer who made over 300 appearances in the Football League during spells with Swansea Town, Cardiff City, Notts County and Tottenham Hotspur. He also made 17 appearances for Wales, scoring six times. Early life Davies was born in Troedyrhiw to Thomas and Mary Davies, growing up in Harriet Town. Career Davies began his career playing for local amateur sides, joining Rhymney where he once scored 61 goals in a single season. He was signed by Swansea Town in 1921, playing in every forward position for the club before settling at outside-right. Turf Moor
Turf Moor is an association football stadium in Burnley, Lancashire, England, which has been the home of Burnley F.C., Burnley Football Club since 1883. This unbroken service makes Turf Moor the second-longest continuously used ground in Football in England, English professional football. The stadium is situated on Harry Potts Way, named after Harry Potts, the manager who won the 1959–60 Football League, 1959–60 First Division with the club, and has a capacity of 21,944. Jock Hutton
John Douglas Hutton (29 October 1898 – 2 January 1970) was a Scottish footballer who played as a right back for Aberdeen and Blackburn Rovers, and represented the Scotland national team in ten official internationals between 1923 and 1928. Career Hutton signed for Aberdeen after the First World War in 1919 and made his debut for the ''Dons'' in the same year; originally played at inside forward but switched to full-back. In the 1920s, he was Aberdeen's most-capped player with seven of his ten caps coming while he played for the club. In October 1926, he joined English club Blackburn Rovers for a then-record £6,000 transfer fee. Hutton won an FA Cup winner's medal in 1928, when Blackburn beat Huddersfield Town 3–1 at Wembley.
