1923–24 Challenge Cup
The 1923–24 Challenge Cup was the 24th staging of rugby league's oldest knockout competition, the Challenge Cup. The final was contested by Wigan Warriors, Wigan and Oldham R.L.F.C., Oldham at the Athletic Grounds, Rochdale, Athletic Grounds in Rochdale. The final was played on Saturday 12 April 1924, where Wigan beat Oldham 21–4 in front of a crowd of 41,831. Wigan Warriors
The Wigan Warriors is an English professional rugby league club based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. The club competes in the Super League, the top tier of the British rugby league system. Formed in 1872, the club is a founding member of the Rugby Football League, Northern Rugby Football Union following the schism in 1895. The club is currently the most successful club in the history of the sport, having won 163 trophies in total (8 of these were won prior to the formation of the Rugby Football League, Northern Rugby Football Union). Ambrose Baker (7 July 1897 – 24 November 1976) was a dual-code international rugby player who played rugby union for Neath and rugby league with Oldham, as a forward. Alan Woodward (7 September 1946 – 21 May 2015) was a professional footballer who played in the position of outside right for Sheffield United over a 16-year period between 1962 and 1978. Woodward or ''Woody'' as he was nicknamed, will be best remembered for his powerful shots.
