1920–21 Northern Rugby Football Union Season
The 1920–21 Northern Rugby Football Union season was the 26th season of rugby league football. Season summary Hull F.C. won their second ever Championship in as many seasons when they defeated local rivals Hull Kingston Rovers 16-14 in the Championship play-off. Hull Kingston Rovers had ended the regular season as league leaders. Leigh won the Challenge Cup beating Halifax 13-0 in the final. Jim Kennedy of Hull F.C. set a club record of 14 goals scored in a match against Rochdale Hornets on 7 April 1921. On 29 January 1921 he had also scored a club record 36 points (4 tries and 12 goals) in a single match against Keighley. Wigan won the Lancashire League, and Halifax won the Yorkshire League. Rugby Football League Championship
The Rugby Football League Championship First Division was the top division of rugby league in Great Britain between 1895 and 1996, when it was replaced by the Super League. History 1895–1904: Foundations The first season of rugby league (1895–96) saw all the breakaway clubs play in a single league competition. The addition of new teams and the problems of travelling led to the league being split in two for the following season; into the Rugby league county leagues, Yorkshire League and the Rugby league county leagues, Lancashire League. Rugby League County Cups
Historically, English rugby league clubs competed for the Lancashire Cup and the Yorkshire Cup, known collectively as the county cups. The leading rugby clubs in Yorkshire had played in a cup competition (affectionately known as ''t’owd tin pot'') for several years prior to the schism of 1895. However, the Lancashire authorities had refused to sanction a similar tournament, fearing it would lead to professionalism. After the split, the replacement for the Yorkshire Cup was not immediately introduced; however, new Yorkshire and Lancashire Cups were introduced in the 1905–06 season. The county cups were played on the same basis as the Challenge Cup, with an open draw and straight knock-out matches leading to a final. The county cups were abandoned in 1993 due to the more successful clubs complaining about overloaded fixtures, but the Yorkshire Cup was revived in 2019. Wakefield Trinity is a professional rugby league club in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The Batley Bulldogs are an English professional rugby league club in Batley, West Yorkshire, who play in the Championship. St Helens Recreation Rugby League Football Club, often known as St Helens Recs or just the Recs, is a former professional rugby league club from St. Helens, Lancashire, that played in the Rugby Football League during the inter-war years.
