1896–97 Irish League
The 1896–97 Irish League was the 7th edition of the Northern Ireland Football League, Irish League, the highest level of league competition in Ireland, Irish association football, football. The league comprised six teams, an increase from the four of the previous season. Glentoran F.C., Glentoran won the championship for the second time. Glentoran F
Glentoran Football Club is a professional association football, football club based in East Belfast, Northern Ireland, that plays in the NIFL Premiership. The club was founded in 1882 and has since won more than 130 major honours. They are one of three Northern Irish teams to have List of unrelegated association football clubs, never been relegated. Solitude (Belfast)
Solitude is a football stadium in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the oldest football stadium in Ireland, and the home ground of Ireland's oldest football club, Cliftonville. The stadium holds 6,224, but is currently restricted to 2,530 under safety legislation. The stadium was built in 1890 and has undergone several renovations. In 2002, a new stand was built at one end of the ground to house visiting supporters, and in 2008, a new stand was completed behind the goal at the east end of the ground. A synthetic 3G pitch was installed to replace the previous grass surface in 2010. History Solitude was opened in 1890 after Cliftonville moved across the road from Oldpark Avenue. The Oval (Belfast)
The Oval (currently known as The BetMcLean Oval for sponsorship reasons) is a football stadium in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which has been home to Glentoran F.C. since 1892. In 1941, the stadium was severely damaged by aerial bombing during the Belfast blitz of World War II and was unusable until 1949. A new main stand was constructed in 1953. The stadium was refurbished with a new stand built in 2000, but requires consistent maintenance to fulfill health and safety requirements and its total capacity is currently restricted to 6,050. The Oval has occasionally hosted the final of the Irish Cup as well as hosting the final of the County Antrim Shield and the Setanta Cup. Cliftonville is a coastal area of Margate in the Thanet district of Kent, England. It includes the Palm Bay estate, built in the 1930s with wide avenues and detached and semi-detached houses with driveways, garages and gardens. 1891–92 Irish League
The 1891–92 Irish League was the 2nd edition of the Irish League, the highest level of league competition in Irish football. The league comprised ten teams, expanding from eight in the previous season. Linfield won the championship for the second year in a row. Season summary Clarence, who had competed in the previous season, withdrew from the league on 1 September 1891 and disbanded later the same year. Their place in the league was taken by Lancashire Fusiliers who were unable to play their opening league game due to the short notice given. On 18 April 1892, they were awarded a win (2 points) for this fixture and were also awarded 1 point for an unplayed match against Distillery. The Fusiliers (who were a British Army team), had no home ground and therefore played all their matches at their opponents' grounds.
