Žilina District
Žilina District () is an ''okres'' (district) of the Žilina Region in north-western Slovakia. The district was first established in 1923. Its present borders date from 1996. The heart of the district is the Váh and Rajec river valleys. Urbanization has led to the district's becoming one of Slovakia's most highly developed areas. Districts Of Slovakia
The districts of Slovakia are administrative units known as in the Slovak language. It is a second-tier territorial administrative unit, below a Region () in standing, and superior to a municipality (). Each district contains at least several municipalities. The cities of Bratislava and Košice are the only cities in Slovakia divided into internal urban districts, with five in Bratislava, and four in Košice. These urban districts are then further divided into smaller boroughs (which serve a function analogous to municipalities in typical districts). All other districts are larger in size and also include rural areas, and rural as well as urban municipalities. Each of these more typical districts has an urban centre serving as the seat of the district, usually the largest town (or the only town) of a given district. Divinka
Divinka () is a village and municipality in Žilina District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. History The modern village of Divinka consists of two parts, which were originally two separate villages: Divinka (former Malá Divina) and Lalinok, which merged in 1911. During the Austro-Hungarian period, the village was a part of Trencsén County and belonged to the district of Kysucké Nové Mesto. The Veľký Vrch hill was fortified with ramparts of a vast hillfort, that rise up majestically above the village Divinka, which, thanks to its strategic location, has been inhabited since ancient times. This place, which gave many important testimonies of settlement in the times long before the first written mention of Divinka or Lalinok, is today a well-known cultural, historical and natural site. Konská, Žilina District
Konská () is a village and municipality in Žilina District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. History In historical records the village was first mentioned in 1228, when a church was built. Since 1350, the village is independent. Geography The municipality lies at an altitude of 435 metres and covers an area of 5.311 km². It has a population of about 1,408 people. Fačkov
Fačkov () is a village and municipality in Žilina District in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia. History The first written mention is from 1351, it is mentioned as Luchka - "a settlement on a meadow in the forest". The name of the village is derived from the name of the first hereditary mayor, who was called Fachkó. The village belonged to the Považ manor, a small part of the farm was owned by zemans. In the village there is a Baroque Church of St. Nicholas built in 1761, which has already undergone several reconstructions. The name of the village changed over the centuries: in 1471 it was mentioned as Fachkwa Lhota, in 1508 as Faczkow and in 1773 as Fačkov. While in 1598 there were 35 houses in the village, in 1784 there were already 126 houses, in which 158 families and 1045 inhabitants lived.
