Želimir Cerović
Želimir "Željko" Cerović (14 March 1948 – 10 December 2019) was a Montenegrin basketball executive and basketball player. He was the president of the Basketball Federation of FR Yugoslavia. Basketball career Cerović spent the entire playing career with his hometown team Sutjeska. Cerović was a board member of Budućnost Podgorica from 1984 to 1990. In 1989, he was elected as the presidend of the Basketball Association of Montenegro, a regional association within Basketball Federation of Yugoslavia. He left the federation in 1998. Cerović served as the president of the Basketball Federation of FR Yugoslavia from 1999 to 2003. During his tenure, the FR Yugoslavia senior national team won gold medals at the 2001 EuroBasket and the 2002 FIBA World Championship. Basketball Federation Of Serbia And Montenegro
The Basketball Federation of Serbia and Montenegro (;), previously Basketball Federation of Yugoslavia, was a non-profit organization and the national sports governing body for basketball in Serbia and Montenegro. Federal Republic of Yugoslavia renamed to Serbia and Montenegro in 2003. Until 2006, the organization has represented Serbia and Montenegro in FIBA and the men's and women's national basketball teams in the Olympic Committee of Serbia and Montenegro. EuroBasket 2001
The 2001 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 2001, was the 32nd FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship held by FIBA Europe, which also served as Europe qualifier for the 2002 FIBA World Championship, giving a berth to the top four (or five, depending on Serbia reaching one of the top four places) teams in the final standings. It was held in Turkey between 31 August and 9 September 2001. Sixteen national teams entered the event under the auspices of FIBA Europe, the sport's regional governing body. The cities of Ankara, Antalya and Istanbul hosted the tournament. Serbia won its third FIBA European title (eighth and the last FIBA European title under the name of Yugoslavia) by defeating hosts Turkey with a 78–69 score in the final. Basketball Executives
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court), while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Serbia National Basketball Team
The Serbia men's national basketball team () represents Serbia in international men's basketball competition, and is controlled by the Basketball Federation of Serbia. Serbia is currently ranked second in the FIBA Men's World Ranking, FIBA World Ranking. From 1992 to 2003, the national team played in international tournaments under the name FR Yugoslavia, and from 2003 to 2006, under the name Serbia and Montenegro.
