Josef Jiří Švec
Josef Jiří Švec (19 July 1883 – 25 October 1918) was a Czech military officer, member of and later of the Czechoslovak Legion in Russian Empire, Russia; he had formerly been a teacher. He committed suicide after the men under his command refused to obey his orders. He is one of the most commemorated members of the Czechoslovak legions. Early life and education Švec was born in Čenkov (today part of Třešť), Moravia, Austria-Hungary. He attended the municipal school in Třešť and then grammar school in Pelhřimov, before studying at the teacher-training institute in Soběslav. He gained additional qualification as a physical education teacher. Marek Švec (wrestler)
Marek Švec (; born 17 February 1973 in Havlíčkův Brod) is an amateur Greco-Roman wrestler from the Czech Republic. He is a three-time Olympian, and also, a multiple-time medalist at both the World and European Championships. He also won the bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Wrestling career Švec, a native of Havlíčkův Brod from the former Czechoslovakia, started wrestling when he was a teenager, and was later admitted to PSK Olymp Praha, one of the most prominent wrestling clubs in the capital Prague, under his coach Ervin Varga. He eventually made his international debut in wrestling by competing in the heavyweight division at the 1994 European Championships, where he finished in fourteenth place. At the onset of his career, Svec struggled to manage his performance in front of the field, as he frequently placed below top-ten places in most of his qualifying tournaments. Otakar Švec
Otakar Švec (23 November 1892, in Prague-New Town, Prague, New Town – 3 March 1955, in Prague) was a Czechoslovak sculptor best known for his colossal granite Stalin Monument (Prague), Monument to Stalin in Prague. Career A pupil of Josef Václav Myslbek and Jan Štursa, Švec had produced the important 1924 Futurism (art), Futurist sculpture ''Sunbeam Motorcycle'', now in the National Gallery in Prague, and at least three major public monuments to Tomáš Masaryk, Jan Hus, and Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The first two were destroyed by the Germans during World War II. Švec entered the competition for the Stalin Monument in 1949, not expecting to win. The sculpture was unveiled on International Workers' Day, May Day, 1955. Švec, horrified by his own creation, had killed himself days before it was officially unveiled.
