Šušvė Hydrological Sanctuary
Šušvė () is a river in central Lithuania, a right (the longest) tributary of the Nevėžis river. It begins in Kelmė district municipality, 6 km (4 mi) southeast from Tytuvėnai. The 134.6 km (83.6 mi) long river passes through Tytuvėnai and Sulinkiai Marshes and flows south through Radviliškis district municipality. Finally, Šušvė passes through Kėdainiai district municipality and flows into the Nevėžis near Graužiai village. The width of the river valley is between 0.5 and 3 km. From December to March Šušvė is usually frozen. Dams were built at Vaitiekūnai and Angiriai ( Angiriai Reservoir). The Šušvė Hydrological Sanctuary was established in 1992 to protect the lower courses of the river. Angiriai or Angeriai (meaning 'a place on woods', formerly , ) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 153 people. It is located from Josvainiai, on the left bank of the Šušvė river, by the dam of the Angiriai Reservoir, near the Josvainiai Forest. History An ancient stone axe has been found in Angiriai. Tytuvėnai
Tytuvėnai () is a town in the Kelmė district municipality, Lithuania. It is located east of Kelmė. It is known for its Bernardine monastery. History The first church in the town was built in 1555. The construction of the monastery was initiated by Andrius Valavičius and his family, who returned to the Catholic faith after a wave of Counter-Reformation. The construction plans were prepared in 1614, but the construction started only after the death of Andrius Valavičius in 1618. Works were sponsored by Jeronimas Valavičius, the treasurer of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. In 1633 the main part of monastery and church was completed. In 1772–1780 a courtyard was built, in which Stations of the Cross were placed. Before World War II, Tytuvėnai was popular as a resort town due to its location among lakes and forests. Kelmė (; ; Yiddish: קעלם) is a city in northwestern Lithuania, a historical region of Samogitia. It has a population of 8,206 and is the administrative center of the Kelmė District Municipality. Name Kelmė's name is likely derived from the Lithuanian language, Lithuanian word ''kelmynės'', literally: ''the stubby place'', because of the forests that were there at the time of its founding. The Yiddish name is Kelm, as in Kelm Talmud Torah. History Kelmė was first mentioned in 1416, the year that Kelmė's first church was built. Pašušvys (formerly , ) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 91 people. It is located from Krakės, on the right bank of the Šušvė river, along the Krakės- Betygala road. There are a community house, a cemetery of the First World War victims, a derelict watermill, some buildings of the Pašušvys Manor, and a former manor park. An ancient burial place is located nearby. Grinkiškis
Grinkiškis (, , ''Grinkishok'') is a town in the Radviliškis District Municipality in Šiauliai County, Lithuania. It is situated on the Šušvė River. It is the seat of an eldership. According to the 2021 census, the town had a population of 550. The town was first mentioned in 1454 and soon became property of the Gatavičius family. Krzysztof Gatavičius, thankful for his military achievements, built a church in 1618. The present church was built in 1875. In 1999, the coat of arms of Grinkiškis were approved by a presidential decree. The coat of arms depict a golden angel on one knee, who holds a silver lily with three blooms. The Angiriai Reservoir is an artificial lake in Kėdainiai District Municipality, central Lithuania. It is located north-west from Josvainiai town. It was created in 1980, when a dam on the Šušvė river had been built next to Angiriai Angiriai or Angeriai (meaning 'a place on woods', formerly , ) is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania.
