Štós
Štós (before 1973 ''Štos''; , earlier ''Stoos''; , earlier ''Soosz'', in the Middle Ages ''Hegyalja'') is a village and municipality in Košice-okolie District in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. It is one of several towns in Bodva Valley. Other towns in Bodva Valley include: Jasov, Lucia Bania, Medzev (Metzenseifen), and Vyšný Medzev (Upper Metzenseifen). History The village developed from an old Slav mining settlement. After the Mongol invasion of 1241, the depopulated region was resettled by German settlers. The place-name derives from the German family name Stoss. In 1341 many privileges were given to German miners. The village passed to Jasov and in 1427 to Smolník. After that, it belonged to the local lord Ján Baglos. Jasov
Jasov (; ) is a small town and municipality in Košice-okolie District in the Kosice Region of eastern Slovakia. It is one of several towns in Bodva, Bodva Valley. Other towns in Bodva Valley include: Lucia Baňa, Lucia Bania, Metzenseifen, Medzev (Metzenseifen), Vyšný Medzev, Vyšný Medzev (Upper Metzenseifen), and Štós, Stos. History Historically, the village was first mentioned in 1234. St John The Baptist Church This is the biggest monastery complex in Slovakia and the St John The Baptist church, which forms its centrepiece, is considered one of the country's most important late-Baroque buildings. Though the present complex dates unquestionably from the 18th century, there has been a monastery here since 1170. The first, probably made of wood, was destroyed by the invading Tatars in 1242. Košice-okolie District
Košice–okolie District (''okres Košice–okolie''; , lit. 'Košice-Surroundings') is a district in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. It surrounds the city of Košice, which serves as the district seat although it does not belong to the district. History The Košice–okolie district was a part of Great Moravia until the 10th century. After the district fell apart, the area was incorporated into Abaúj and Torna, which were counties of the Kingdom of Hungary. The region was a part of Abaúj-Torna County from 1882 until the end of World War I. It then became part of the newly formed Czechoslovakia. Excluding a small section in the north, the district formed a part of Abovsko-turnianská župa of the county of Šariš from 1918 to 1923. Vyšný Medzev (; ) is a village and municipality of Košice-okolie District in the Košice Region of eastern Slovakia. It is one of several towns in Bodva Valley. Other towns in Bodva Valley include: Jasov, Lucia Bania, Medzev (Metzenseifen), and Stos. History It seems almost a certainty, that the farmers, especially those from Thuringia from “Das Dörfl”, moved to Vyšný Medzev ("Upper Metzenseifen"), or then named , during the first lineage of farmers and as a minority compared to the miners, whose home lies in the Bodwa Valley in Medzev, or then known as . Until 1427, there was a mere mention of a town in the Jasov monastery's documents (Kauer, J. et al. 1986). It is no wonder then, that the Premonstratensian Order—the "white" fathers—assumed religious control of this area.
