1933 Turkish Football Championship
The 1933 Turkish Football Championship was the fourth edition of the competition. It was held in October. Fenerbahçe won their first national championship title in their history by defeating İzmirspor 8–0 in the replay of the final match. In the initial final match between Fenerbahçe and İzmirspor the latter were leading 1–0 in the first half. In the second half the referee awarded Fenerbahçe a penalty, which led to persistent protests of İzmirspor players. Eventually, İzmirspor supporters invaded the pitch and the match was aborted. The Turkish Football Federation decided that the replay was to be played on the home ground of the club which would be selected by draw and that a foreign referee would be assigned. The 1933 final produced the most goals scored in a final during the history of the competition, exceeding the six scored in the 1927 final. The İzmir Football League () was founded as a regional football league for İzmir based clubs in 1924. In the period from 1924 to 1935, the winners of the İzmir League qualified for the former Turkish Football Championship. In 1937 the first national league in Turkish football was introduced. The top two placed teams of the İzmir League qualified for the National Division, which took place after the conclusion of the regional leagues each season. The name of the league was changed later and became İzmir Professional Football League in the 1955–56 season, when professional football was introduced. The league continued to be played after 1959, though it was no longer a first level competition since the professional nationwide league was introduced in 1959. Turkish Regional Amateur League
The Turkish Regional Amateur League () is the fifth tier of the Turkish football league system. The tier comprises a number (usually 10-13, varies by season) of groups across Turkey, each consisting of teams grouped according to the regions in which they are based. Every season, 12 teams are promoted to the TFF Third League while the bottom two teams of each group are relegated to the Super Amateur Leagues of their respective provinces. League status The league contains 153 teams which participate in 10 groups: 2 of these groups contain 14 teams, 4 of these groups contain 15 teams, 3 of these groups contain 16 teams and one group contains 17 teams. At the end of the season, 12 teams will be promoted to TFF Third League. 10 group winners get direct promotion. It was founded in the 2001–02 season with the name of ''Turkish Second League Category B'' as a continuation of the then second level division. Metin Oktay (2 February 1936 – 13 September 1991) nicknamed the Crownless King () by Galatasaray S.K. (football team), Galatasaray fans, was a Turkish people, Turkish association football, footballer and one of the most successful goal scorers in Turkey. Early life Metin Oktay was born in Karşıyaka, İzmir, on 2 February 1936. His father was an Albanian factory worker and his mother a Turkish homemaker. Personal life Metin Oktay married Servet Kardicali on 12 May 1965, in Istanbul. On 9 February 1965, the couple had a daughter who was named by Metin Oktay as "Zeynep". She died the same day she was born. In 1979, Metin and Servet Oktay had a granddaughter from their son Rifat Halil Pala who was named Zeynep Pala. The Turkish Football Championship () was a top-level association football, football competition in Turkey. It was the first nationwide championship in Turkish football history. The championship was organised by the Turkish Football Federation (then called ''Futbol Hey'et-i Müttehidesi''). The tournament system was based on a knockout competition, contested between the winners of each of the country's regional leagues. After 1951 and the professionalization of Turkish football, the competition continued under the name Turkish Amateur Football Championship (Turkish: ''Türkiye Amatör Futbol Şampiyonası'') with a completely different status. The Süper Lig (, ''Super League''), also known as Trendyol Süper Lig for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Turkey and the highest level of the Turkish football league system. In the 2023–2024 season, twenty clubs compete, where a champion is decided and three clubs are promotion and relegation, promoted from, and another four relegated to the TFF First League, 1. Lig. The season runs from August to May, with each club playing 36 matches. Matches are played Friday through Monday.
