Basmane railway station () is an intercity and regional railway terminal and rapid transit station in İzmir, Turkey. Along with Alsancak station, Basmane is one of two railway terminals in the city. All TCDD Taşımacılık trains terminate at this station, with intercity service to Ankara, Bandırma and Konya as well as regional service to Denizli, Söke, Tire and Ödemiş. The name originated from the Turkish phrase . History National railway station When the Ottoman Railway Company built Alsancak Terminal, the demand for more railways in İzmir grew. On July 4, 1863, the Smyrna Cassaba Railway (SCR) was chartered to build a line from İzmir to Turgutlu (then Cassaba). The railway chose to have their terminal close to the city center. Construction of the station began in 1864 and completed in 1866. The station opened on October 25, 1866. M1 (Ä°zmir Metro)
The M1, also known as the Narlıdere Kaymakamlık–Evka 3 Line (), is the only active line of the İzmir Metro in İzmir, İzmir, Turkey. The line runs from Narlıdere Kaymakamlık (İzmir Metro), Narlıdere Kaymakamlık station in the west to Evka 3 (İzmir Metro), Evka 3 station in the east, consisting of 24 stations. Construction of the first stage of line began in 1992 and was completed in 2000, consisting of 10 initial stations. Further extensions of the line since 2005 have been plagued by repeated construction delays and re-awarding of Procurement, tenders. An eastern extension in 2012 and two western extensions in 2014 and 2024 added another two, five and seven stations to the line respectively. Turgutlu
Turgutlu, also known as Kasamba (''Cassaba'' or ''Casaba'') is a municipality and district of Manisa Province, Turkey Magnesia on the Maeander. Its area is 549 km2, and its population is 175,401 (2022). Its elevation is . The present name derives from the name of the Turkish clan of " Turghudlu" (''also cited as "Turgut" or "TurgutoÄŸlu"''), recorded as having provided the main support to the Beylik of Karaman during their time of existence and mentioned in historical records as an important political entity as late as the 18th century Iran. Their settlement in Turgutlu region is thought to have taken place some time in the 15th century at the same time as the Ottoman unification of Anatolia which resulted in the demise of Karamanids. Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements
The Smyrne Cassaba & Prolongements ( English:''Smyrna Cassaba & Prolongations''), formerly The Smyrna Cassaba Railway, was a railway company operating in Western Anatolia from 1863 to 1934. History The Ottoman Government gave a concession to build a railway from Smyrna to Cassaba on July 4, 1863. The concession was awarded to an English company "The Smyrna Cassaba Railway". The railway chose to have their terminus closer to Smyrna's city center. Construction began ın 1864. The rail line opened to Manisa on October 10, 1865 and to Cassaba on January 10, 1866. The SCR then built a line to Bornova (splitting from the main line at Halkapınar), which opened on October 25, 1866. They were going to extend the line to Cassaba, but the SCR went bankrupt during the stock market crash in 1866. The SCR recovered after a second concession to Alaşehir. Ottoman Railway Company
The Ottoman Railway Company, commonly referred to as the İzmir–Aydın Railway (), is the oldest railway in Anatolia and second oldest railway in the Ottoman Empire. The railway was built by a British company to transport mineral and fruit (primarily figs) from the Aydın plain to the Port of İzmir to be exported. The railway also played an important role in operating commuter rail service throughout southern İzmir. By 1912 the railway was operating 3 commuter routes within the city. The main goal of the ORC was to build a line to Aydın, however once the railway got concessions to extend their mainline, they quickly started to dominate the rail industry in İzmir. They extended their mainline to Denizli and then to Eğirdir by 1912 as well as building branch lines to towns in the İzmir province. Ödemiş
Ödemiş () is a municipality and district of İzmir Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,019 km2, and its population is 132,740 (2022). It is located 113 km southeast of the city of İzmir. About 4 km north of Ödemiş town are the ruins of Hypaepa. The historical importance of the region is also reflected by the small town of Birgi, east of Ödemiş, which was the capital of the Aydınids, which has examples of Seljuq and Ottoman architecture. Birgi has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1994, and points of interest here include Çakırağa Mansion, İmam-i Birgivi Medrese and Sultanşah Mausoleum. Söke is a municipality and district of Aydın Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,064 km2, and its population is 123,301 (2022). It is the largest district of Aydın Province by area. Denizli is a city in Aegean Region, Aegean Turkey, and seat of the province of Denizli Province, Denizli.
