İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi B.K. (English: Istanbul Technical University Basketball Club), commonly abbreviated as İTÜ BK or simply İTÜ, is a Turkish professional basketball club that is based in Istanbul, Turkey. It is one of the most successful clubs in the history of the Basketball Super League, Turkish Basketball League, having won the league championship five times. Their home arena is the ITU Ayazaga Sports Center in Istanbul Technical University's Maslak campus. Some of the well-known players that have played with the club over the years are İbrahim Kutluay, Harun Erdenay and Hüseyin Alp. History The ITÜ basketball team was founded by former president of the Istanbul Technical University İlhami Civaoğlu and ITU graduate Nami Sukal in 1953. Darüşşafaka Ayhan Şahenk Sports Hall (Turkish language, Turkish: Darüşşafaka Ayhan Şahenk Spor Salonu) is a multi-purpose indoor arena that is located in Istanbul, Turkey. The arena is mostly used to host basketball games, but can also be used to host artistic and cultural events. It has a seating capacity for 3,500 spectators. Vladimir Štimac (, born 25 August 1987) is a Serbian former professional basketball player, politician and activist. He also represented the Serbian national team internationally. Standing at , he played at the center position. Štimac is affiliated with the New Democratic Party of Serbia (NDSS) and the National Democratic Alternative (NADA) coalition. Marek Klassen (born June 11, 1992) is a Canadian professional basketball player for ESSM Le Portel of the LNB Pro A. He played college basketball for Point Loma Nazarene Sea Lions men's basketball, Point Loma Nazarene. Highschool career Klassen attended Yale Secondary School from 2007–2010. He won two provincial championships with the Yale Lions (2008-2010). In his senior year in 2010 the Yale Lions won the British Columbia provincial championship. Erman Kunter (born 8 October 1956) is a Turkish former professional basketball player and coach. He most recently served as head coach of Galatasaray, of the Turkish Basketball Super League (BSL). He is well known for being the player that scored the most points ever in a single-game of any top-tier level professional basketball league in the world, with 153 points scored in a Turkish Super League game in 1988.
