	İsmil İsmil is a neighbourhood of the municipality and district of Karatay, Konya Province, Turkey. Its population is 5,736 (2022). Before the 2013 reorganisation, it was a town (''belde''). Geography İsmil is a few kilometers south of the Turkish state highway D.330 which connects Konya to Adana. The highway distance to Konya is about . History The first mention of İsmil in historical records was in the 15th century with reference to the farm of İsmil. The farm was owned by a certain İsmail of Khorasan indicating that the original population of the settlement was Turkmens Turkmens (, , , ) are a Turkic ethnic group native to Central Asia, living mainly in Turkmenistan, northern and northeastern regions of Iran and north-western Afghanistan. 	Belde Belde (literally "town", also known as ''kasaba'') means "large village with a municipality" in Turkish language, Turkish. All Turkish province centers and district centers have municipalities, but the Villages of Turkey, villages are usually too small to have municipalities. The population in some villages may exceed 2000 and in such villages a small municipality may be established depending on residents' choice. Such villages are called ''belde''. Up to 2014 the number of ''belde'' municipalities was about 1400.
